Anyone know what happened to him?

He was signed as a 3B out of the Dominican a couple of years ago and was lauded for having great tools, but he couldn't put it together. I'm wondering if the Cubs are trying to possibly convert him to a pitcher in Mesa, since there is an A. Francisco on their roster. Same guy??

I think those are 2 different Alfredo Francisco's. I did a search on MiLB for Francisco and came back with 2 in the Cubs' system. The 3b's DoB is 8/27/1984 and the P's DoB is 2/02/1982.

Francisco played just a few weeks with us here in Peoria at 3B/1B...then he threw a perfect 9th inning in a 14-2 loss and hit 92 MPH on the gun. He is now back in Mesa being converted to a pitcher....

Hope that helps!

Welcome. It's good to have another broadcaster from the Cubs' system here.

Here's a blurb from the Peoria paper that mentions Alfredo Francisco's first relief appearance. :)

On the Fourth of July, with the Chiefs getting popped by 19 runs at Kane County, Garcia put utility infielder Aaron Smith on the mound in a bases-loaded, no-outs situation in the eighth.

Despite fastballs registering in the low 80s, Smith got a sacrifice fly and a double-play grounder to limit the worst margin of defeat in club history to 21-2.

Smith threw all fastballs except for two curveballs out of the zone.

The Chiefs may not have uncovered a future pitcher - as they did in another blowout situation earlier in the year, when infielder Alfredo Francisco threw in the 90s and led the Chicago Cubs to send him back to rookie ball to become a pitcher - but Smith helped lighten the mood.

"It's obviously a bad situation when you're getting kicked like that," Garcia said. "That kind of makes everything more relaxed."

Afterward, Smith's parents - listening to the Internet broadcast from Everett, Wash. - called to ask if he used the knuckleball he experiments with while throwing before games.

"I was telling our guys that was probably the best moment of my minor-league career," Smith said. "All pitchers want an (at-bat), and all position guys want to get out on the bump."

Anyone know his correct age?

MiLB has the P's age listed as 23.

Sure but earlier in the year (and his career) he was listed as younger (21). He don't look as sexy as a 23 y/o pitcher starting out in Mesa.

Well, The Baseball Cube has him listed at 20 (turning 21 in August) and that sounds more right to me.
