The only reason that Carlos Lee has more rbi than DLee right now is because he has people that get on infront of him. There seems to be a split decision on if we should go with a power hitting LF or a leadoff CF.

Gathright hasn't had much experience in the bigs and is currently playing in AAA but I think he's worth a shot. The DRays don't seem interested in playing him so we might get him fairly cheap. He's been getting on base at nearly a .400 clip (.388 to be exact) this year in Durham. When he gets on base he's also a difference maker (31-39 in SBA this year). I know there will be concerns about experience for the race but I don't see how he won't be an upgrade over CPatt and could become a poor man's Juan Pierre.

Problem with that is with Baldelli's TJ surgery. Tampa probably won't trade him. Unless they really like Johnny Gomes.

Did you forget who manages the Cubs? Cedeno was hitting .377 in Iowa and he's riding the pines in favor of Neifi Perez.

I'm not the slightest bit interested in overpaying for Gathright so that he can sit next to Cedeno on the bench.

I'm not sure how good he would be, but he is the fastest guy in the league.

Well then he would immediately become Dusty's leadoff hitter, since we all know speed is more important than the plate discipline and the ability to get on base.

He will actually be a very good leadoff guy if he keeps progressing the way that he has. He is starting to learn the strike zone and how to work the count. As noted, he is extremely fast and he can definately make things happen on the base paths. Imagine an outfield of him, Baldelli, and Crawford. Absolutely nothing should fall in between them.

Ya, just when it seems like they have no interest in calling him up...they do. Less than 2 hours after a posted this too.

Wouldn't mind having him, actually. He's a very limited a hitter, he's a slap hitter without great contact skills (!), but he beats out a lot of cheap hits and he draws a few walks and so gets on base, and once on the bases he's a difference maker (gets caught a bit too often, he relies on his speed as opposed to great jumps, but nothing too bad). His blazing speed I'd assume also translates to good range in centre, but I don't know much about his arm or the routes he takes on balls and the rest of his defensive package.

So, then, his upside is a poor man's Juan Pierre, and that's nothing to get too excited about. All the same, the Devil Rays seem utterly clueless and unintent upon actually using him (despite him being useful in his time in the Majors and Baldelli being on the DL). If we could get him reasonably cheap, he'd be a nice acquisition.

2-7 with 1 rbi and 3Ks since his call up. First night he wasn't good with an 0-3 night and 2 Ks. Tonight he went 2-4 with an rbi and one K.
