Roster Count 7/1/05

Based on Enrique Wilson and Cliff Bartosh being outrighted to the minors and Joe Borowski being designated for assignment, the 40-man roster count is presently at 37 (according to my computation).

 

3 open spots give Hendry some flexibility here, both in the trade department as well as the rule 5 department. Any thoughts on how Hendry might fill these 3 spots?

 

Still would like to see Hendry bring up Mike Fontenot and release Jose Macias to free up a 4th spot.

 

Any new word on how Nomar's and Scott Williamson's re-habs are going?

Not sure on Williamson, but apparently Nomar's rehab is going pretty well. There was an article on Cubs.com this afternoon about that very subject.

He's taking grounders and hitting off of a tee, though he doesn't speculate on a return date, the article does say rather hopefully that it could be less than a month.

No links but I hear that there is no timetable for Nomar's return and Williamson is rehabbing I think in Daytona or Boise. Or I could be wrong.

How could I possibly have forgotten Crouthers? :-k

 

I suppose they have to save a space for Nomar's return. In any case, I'd guess that some of those spots will be kept open for some of the impending rule 5 casualties. If Hendry trades for an impact player he'll be sending more bodies than he receives so I don't see where having the extra spaces is that big of a deal.
