I need your help in figuring out a trade to send some pitchers (like Mitre, Welly, Rusch, or Williams) to Texas (who really needs pitching) in a 3-way (or 4-way) trade with Texas trading problem child Kenny Rogers to some contender who needs a strong lefty starter. Somehow in this deal, we get Kevin Mench. You've got the basics, now get those brains working so that we end up with Mench.

Why not just trade Mitre, Wellemeyer and Leicester for Mench? Rogers has no trades rights which he wouldn't waive even when Texas was dead last a couple years ago. They just won a couple against division leading Anaheim. How would trading Rogers help them?

Why would we want Rodgers? I know I certainly don't.

I think the original post is suggesting we get involved in a 3 way deal that would send Rogers to another contending team, and us possibly netting Mench.

I've talked recently to several friends who are Ranger fans. From what I've gathered, Mench will not be traded unless you're willing to offer Zambrano.

Hart and Showalter are on a plan to let the young kids mature together. 2006 was their target. They might make a move to see if they can stay competitive this year, but they will not trade any of the core offensive players to do that. Mench, along with Tex, Hank, Young, or Nix, will not be available. Soriano could be had. Hidalgo, yes. Delucci, yes. Mench, no.

I'll throw this out year since his name has been brought up. What about Dellucci as a trade target? His BABIP is right in line with expected, and he's been better on the road(.255/.417/.521/.938) than at home(.257/.397/.476/.873). Is Dellucci the one who had some procedure that he credits to improving his game(eye surgery maybe?)? He'd looks like he'd be a good fit in LF, and he's under a VERY reasonable contract(850k in '05, 950k in '06). Perhaps the Rangers view his performance as a fluke, and would part with him for some pitching help?

EDIT: Yep, Dellucci had LASIK surgery this offseason, which he credits for his improved patience.

They might would do Rusch for Delucci or Mitre for Delucci. It would have to be a pitcher they think would help them this year as well as maybe in the future.

Maybe we could trade for Kenny Rogers in the hope Jay Mariotti would say somthing snide about him. Sit back and watch the sparks fly!!

Seriously, though, I don't see any need for Rogers. I don't think we match up well with Texas as a trading partner right now. They have some very good offense, and we have the pitching they would want, but the players they have to fill the positions where we need help are either untouchable or would be far too expensive for our tastes.

Yes, my original post suggested a 3-way trade in which we ended up with Mench and Rogers went to another contender. I think it's great that Hart & Showalter want to keep the kids together, but they desparately need pitching for this year and in the future. Trading an offensive "kid" for 2-3 pitching "kids" certainly would help make them contenders next year and in the future. Besides, they have lots of offense.

I agree that they need pitching, but if they trade one of the core five, they have a certain type of pitcher in mind. They would want a can't miss major league ready 1-2 type starter or a young pitcher who has demonstrated success in the major leagues?

We don't have any in the first category.

And we really don't have anyone in the second category. Mitre? Not enough sustained success. Williams? He'll have to prove he's the pitcher of 2003.

Zambrano is asking too much. The Rangers would trade for quality but not quantity. That's the problem. We can overwhelm someone with quantity, but we lack the blue-chippers needed to give them what they're looking for.

My guess is Mench stays put. In fact, I'm fairly certain of it...at least for the 2005 season.

Ah... forgot to turn "Fair Trades" off on your MVP owner mode, eh?

Why would Texas trade Rogers?? They'd have no pitching at all and would basically be conceding the division to Anaheim. They're only 6 1/2 out. If anyone is leaving Tx, it's Soriano. I like Soriano, but have come to the conclusion that if the Cubs got him Dusty would waste him by leading him off. He's fast ya know!

I would certainly inquire about Mench and offer a combination of players Mitre, Welly, Dubois, Kelton, Guzman, etc. If they start asking for Zambrano, then you say goodbye, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
