The guy was an awful manager and just doesn't bring anything special to the booth.

An awful Manager with a championship.

Agreed, DJAXX, but did Brenly really do anything the propelled them to a championship, or did he ride two horses to a title?

I know one thing, I will never forget the look on Brenly's face when BK blew the second consecutive game. Classic.

I agree with you and see where you're going. Our awful manager had 2 horses as well in 2003 and couldn't get it done with a 3-1 lead.

Maybe our awful manager can get a title too

Len is a huge improvement over Chip. Chip may be a decent generic announcer, but Len is a baseball announcer. He knows the game 10 times more than Chippy and I like the way he doesn't over hype the action, i.e saying, "we've got a pitching duel on our hands here, folks" when it 0-0 in the 2nd inning. Len lets the game shape the broadcast, not vice versa.

Unfortunately, Brenly adds nothing to the equation.

"It'd be nice. Nice little plus!"

(That should be funny for anyone who has seen David Spade's "Take the Hit".

A clear case of big city bias can be made here.

Stone was the man, Len isn't an improvement over Chip IMO. The only good thing about Chip leaving was that the Chip Complainers finally shut up.

Not really. It's pretty logical that the best announcers in the business are probably going to work for the largest markets.

And I apologize if you can't see an improvement from Len to Chip.

Keep on preachin, Brother. And I think Brenly has steadily imporved over the course of the year, including giving Cory the business for that idiot baserunning move last week.

Though I do miss Stoney....

Len is amazing.

Brenly is pretty okay.

Chip makes me want to die.

Stoney was cool until he started making fun of the players and repeating himself over and over (OML THE VISIBILITY) (OML FOR YOU KIDS OUT THERE) (OML WHO PICKED UP THE CHECK) (OML HERE COMES A CURVEBALL OOPS IT WAS A FASTBALL I THINK I STOP TALKING FOR THE NEXT 30 SECONDS SO I DONT HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I WAS WRONG)

I love Len. He's funny, and he knows what he's talking about. Plus, he was in a garage band called Your Indentured Servants. It doesn't get any better than that.

He's also better to look at than Chip.

Of course, he has your email address blocked and has that restraining order on you right now, but he'll come around...

He's just playing hard to get. He can't resist me.

Len is head and shoulders above Chip. I enjoy listening to him. Brenly is a significant downgrade from Stoney, but as others have said, who wouldn't be? As it stands, I can think of a number of worse broadcasters we could have ended up with.

Len Kasper is light years beyond Chip. Even though I tolerated Chip's play-by-play with the Cubs, I can't listen to him do Braves games. It is brutal.

Orsillo and Remy are solid.

I also think Jim Palmer does a good job on O's broadcasts. He always refers to offense in terms of OBP and such.

Len is significantly better than Chip. Len actually brings up stats that matter and doesn't sound like a cartoon.

As for Brenly, he does a solid job. Frankly I don't miss Stone that much. He was good but really became almost unlistenable near the end of last year when he let personal feelings interfer with his work.

Reading the Suntimes about his score radio show, his feelings are still interfering. Chip is a dolt, thank god he's gone. The only thing he had going for him was that he was a member of the lucky sperm club.

Speaking of criticizing the players, did anyone else hear the roasting that Santo gave Hairston during Thursday's game? I'm wondering how untouchable our lovable Ronny is...

Very untouchable. I can't imagine the backlash that would happen if Santo became a target.

I think more people view Santo as closer to a village idiot than hard hitting analyst, so I don't think he'd receive the same backlash.

I never minded Chip as much as most people did (or so it seemed from reading these message boards), but I have always thought Len Kasper was an excellent play-by-play man. I lived in Miami for several years and always enjoyed listening to Len call a game. I'm not a huge fan of Brenly, but to be fair I probably would have felt the same about anybody else after Stone. I'm sure I'm in the minority on this, but I really think Eric Karros is going to be a good color guy with some more experience.

I've liked Karros, too, when I've heard him.

I wish the Tribune Co. hadn't felt a need to run out and sign Brenly to, what, a 5-year deal? I definitely like Len more than Chip, but I'm still blah on Brenly, and I'm not sure that's going to change much in the coming years.
