Neither does Alanis Morisette

"It's like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife..."

No, that's just bad luck, not irony.

And where the heck would you find 10,000 spoons, except for at the spoon factory?

And even in that case, who goes to a spoon factory looking for a knife? That's bad planning.

Additionally, who brings a knife to a gun fight?

Maybe a 10,000 Maniacs concert? Assuming each maniac had his/her own spoon, that is.

irony deals with opposites. people have changed the true meaning of the word.

Synonyms aren't truly definitions, anyway.

syn·o·nym ( P ) Pronunciation Key (sn-nm)

n.

1. A word having the same or nearly the same meaning as another word or other words in a language.

2. A word or an expression that serves as a figurative or symbolic substitute for another.

3. Biology. A scientific name of an organism or of a taxonomic group that has been superseded by another name at the same rank.

While some synonyms might be interchangeable, it certainly depends on the context in which the words are used. Personally, I don't equate irony with sarcasm. Perhaps that is a flaw in my language skills.

Just add it to the bottom of your flaw list.

Now I find that ironic.

You mind want to reevaluate your definition of irony, because I don't think either of those even qualifies for an Alanis Morissette song.

Kudos to Sammy. He's going to go down as one of the greats.
