Matt Chapman/Giants agree on 6/$151mil extension

Good for him after Boras bungled last winter. 

I would not want him on that deal though.  This feels like throwing bad money after good because the Giants can't get anyone to take their mega contracts.

I'm surprised Chapman didn't wait a month and negotiate with the rest of the league. I know how poorly that went last year, but his problem last year was that he was ice cold in the second half and people thought he'd fallen off a cliff. This year, his production was good in the first half and has been even better in the second half. So I doubt his market would have been so reserved.

Look, Chapman proved me wrong and had a very nice year, but giving him 6 years when he's going to turn 32 not long after 2025 opening day is craziness.

maybe he really likes being in the Bay Area? and it's not like that's not a ton of $$ already

Feels like a good deal, honestly. I wouldn't do it for the Cubs but Chapman clearly likes the Bay Area, and gets his guaranteed money after a great season. For the Giants, they add certainty to the position and Chapman's defense gives him a decent floor even if his bat regresses.
