Well, I'd say this more or less takes the Cubs out on Correa, and maybe Bogaerts. Correa is surely getting a similar contract, and XB could get one slightly lower, both of which seem too high for Poor Tom Ricketts

Yep bad news for a team that wants to go 5 maybe 6 years max on premiere FAs. Will be interesting to see if Jed bends on that or stays stubborn to his principles

Hahahaha so many "whew! Glad the Cubs didn't spend this much on this guy!" messages in a Cubs fan chat thread I'm part of. Ricketts appreciates all the fans looking out for him.

Turner's the guy I wanted most, I am curious to see how he ages. Most people anecdotally worry about speed guys aging but I think the data mostly says they age best. And while the non-speed parts of Turner's game are more good than great, the fact that he's the fastest everyday player in the league (and has been for several years) and isn't entirely one-dimensional would IMO suggest a very graceful age curve.

Curious to see what Correa gets, and when. I sort of wonder if Correa's planning to be last man standing amongst the superstars, since I think the others have all indicated they'll sign soon.

If I were a star baseball player, I would never go to the Mets Phillies. Partly because they're the Mets Phillies but mostly because I'd be too close to LGA Phillies fans, which can horsefeathers all of the way off.

I wanted Turner, but 11 years with his age and injury history? No thanks. Eight years would have been as far as I would have gone with him.

Not thrilled about what this is going to do to the market, though.

I actually think the relatively modest AAV is helpful to the Cubs chances. Perhaps a five or six year deal at 8 to 10 million more a year will seem more appealing now.

It's also the SS who had the least Cubs smoke, being taken by one of the (deep pocketed) teams most clearly pursuing a SS. Of course, all of that game theory means nothing when the Rangers give Bogaerts 12/470 and tell Semien to play catcher.

Agreed, he was the best fit among all available FAs. I think his speed will be above avg going into mid- late 30s.

We'll see if Correa settles on a similar deal as last year. He's too injury prone to keep gambling on himself.
