The Cubs are mostly tapped out for this year, and considering we're getting the #1 guy in the class we should presume next year's funds are completely spoken for as well.  So do we think there's any opportunity to get Rodriguez?  Presumably some team has some leftover funds and will swoop in and grab him?

Isn't he old enough to be a regular FA?

Yep

Man I've seen some people get screwed with their post counts following the move, but no one got screwed more than Raisin, our all time post count leader on the old board.

Sorry to derail, that just jumped out at me when I saw you post lol

Is there a way here to look at a member list and sort it by various fields? I haven't seen one yet.

I’m just glad the random “1679835431” that was after my username yesterday is gone now.

The Cubs had 3 of the top 36 bonuses in the 1/15/2023 IFA class:

10. Derniche Valdez - $2.8 million
35. Angel Cepeda - $1 million
36. Ludwing Espinoza - $1 million

But they didn’t have another player in the top 100 IFA signing bonuses for this class, which means none of their other signings topped a $350k bonus.

BA did their review of the Cubs IFA class. Badler says the Cubs still have about $500k available. Outside of the big 3 who all signed for 7-figures, every signing this IFA class has been for 5-figures or less.

Some sleepers:

Emmanoel Madeira, RHP, Brazil - $10k bonus

Albert Gutierrez, 3B, Dominican Republic - $10k bonus

Saul Siri, RHP, Dominican Republic - $20k bonus

Finally went back to Brazil?! It’s probably been a decade since they got sniped on Luiz Gohara by the Mariners, he ended up ranked and briefly in the MLs but had strength and conditioning issues

This is the first amateur player they’ve ever signed out of Brazil before. I don’t think they ever “went” there to begin with.

Brander Guevara, 19, RHP: A member of Cuba’s team at U-18 World Cup in 2018, the teenager is considered by many scouts to be a potential starter. He has shown good mechanics with solid arm action and durability. He spent some time in Costa Rica and in December, he moved to the Dominican Republic to showcase his talents. Guevara’s fastball sits at 90-91 mph and the belief is that he will eventually touch 93-94 mph consistently.
