Jim Harbaugh has mastered routing cupcake opponents and he's getting plenty of chances to flex that skill this year

Isn’t that what top 10 teams do to G5 schools? Or is this a knock on schedule, which is the only year I can ever remember Michigan not playing a P5/ND NC game.

The latter. You won't have to wait long to see them do it again, it's happening again next year

Yeah dropped a home and home against UCLA for...reasons. I doubt its because Michigan shied away from competition considering they have a long history of scheduling a fair NC schedule. They do it one year and suddenly they're an SEC team or something. Personally I hate that its like this the next 2 years but I doubt its a trend.

You mentioned ND's NC is bad the next couple of years. Why wouldn't UM and ND have scheduled a game for next year?

Anyways, about Michigan. Michigan's 2 headed QB experiment is probably going exactly how they wanted it to go. Cade was inaccurate and was either given no chances to throw downfield or was not seeing people downfield. He looked bothered by the competition and made some comments about it after the game. Meanwhile JJ got some garbage time action in and showed everyone the added dimension he brings to the game.

While I do think that Cade and JJ may have been neck and neck in camp, I definitely think this was set up for JJ to win the job unless Cade just crushed it. Tough situation since they both have the same eligibility remaining and clearly neither is going to be satisfied being the backup. But it seems like McCarthy is going to be the QB after next week unless he really falls flat on his face.

ND does have Ohio State, @Clemson and a presumably much improved USC next year so they'll be fine at the top, I just hate the SEC cupcake flavor of the early slate. I presume the (or at least one) answer to your question is that ND was already pretty much done with their 2022-23 slates when UM dropped UCLA - which I assume they did because they would've only had 6 home games in 23 if the series had been played as scheduled.

Just so this is on the record before kickoff, I have low expectations for tonight's game. ND lost one of their already hilariously thin WR group to an ACL tear in preseason, which means a former walk on is starting and a WR turned safety has been cross training at WR again in camp. Their best offensive lineman is either out tonight or will be playing at like 50 percent with another injury. And their secondary is rather easily the worst unit on the field and oh look an army of 5 star WRs on the other side. It will take an absolutely absurd effort on both lines to win.

I'm still so confused why Fox took PSU-Purdue instead of OSU-ND for Joe Buck. I guess less competition on Thursday night than Saturday night but still...this is by far the marquee game of the weekend.

Fox might laugh last though if OSU wins by 35 and the other game ended up being really good.

Just reading this thread. If ND is so bad how are they ranked 5? Anyway, a very rare time I’m pulling for ND. OSU and their fan base are the St. Louis Cardinals of College Football.

Edit to add: If the Big10 (whatever) wants to schedule second sister schools to start the season, they should only schedule MAC schools. They would be doing a solid for a lot of pretty decent locally regional universities.

I mean ratings are meaningless right now, but like most years there's probably a gigantic gap between the top 2-3 and the rest. (though maybe they are much closer based on how things have gone so far tonight)

They definitely should. Big Ten seems to be scared of scheduling MAC teams lately. In this case, Michigan dropped the UCLA games in late 2019, not sure who had an open date that close to this season. I don't think Michigan is thrilled with playing UConn, but they care more about the extra home game revenues next year.

Is it just my OSU bias or does Stroud seem like the most inconsistent good QB in the country? Dude makes some amazing throws that most QBs cant make but also makes just as many inaccurate passes.

I thought the same way about Fields when he was at OSU. Obviously, he turned out ok.

Yeah he turned out ok *looks around nervously*

OSU-ND wasn’t on the table in the Buck deal

Looks like I was wrong about the Utah bandwagon, thought for sure they were a lock for 10 wins and head and shoulders above USC and Oregon.

Bad decision at the end of that game by the QB. At the very least you need to make sure you get the FG attempt.

Tyler Buchner looked like exactly the same QB as when he last played 9 months ago, which is frustrating.

I'm all aboard the Marcus Freeman hype train but it's going to be an annoying week of the easiest Twitter wisecrack of all time about him being the most-hyped 0-2 coach in history.

They had 1st and goal from the 10 followed by 2nd and goal from the 8. From there:

-offensive PI on an incomplete pass

-holding

-incomplete pass

-false start

-sacked for 5 yard loss while also committing a holding penalty, which was declined

Meanwhile, FSU has a QB.

LSU losing in Kelly’s first game, in the Superdome, marking the first SEC team to lose this season would be incredible. Former Ragin’ Cajun HC Billy Napier winning his debut at Florida after getting passed over at LSU would be chef’s kiss.

LSU looks like ass.

Jordan Travis on the other hand looks out of this world good. Every time I look up he's evading an unblocked rusher and dropping a dime. Just delivered a perfect TD pass just as an unblocked guy was coming in for the most obvious targeting in the history of the rule. Glad my team doesn't have to deal with him this year.

Agreed. I liked Norvell at Memphis and thought he’d do better at FSU. Maybe if he has a great QB he can run the style he wants.

Same old LSU-sloppy, undisciplined, inept offense.
