I hate this. How they don't have a GM in place by now is criminal

Eh? It's not the worst thing in the world, yet. If they don't have one until the super bowl, that's a problem. But there's nothing wrong with waiting until this week.

There is if Daboll gets hired while Geo is pondering what salad to have at his next GM interview. He's had time, in fact this year he's had more time then in past

I'm confused about how Frazier would or would not be a finalist at this point, without a GM. Are they culling the list and then giving the GM the choice among 5 guys, or are they telling the GM, hire who you want but not this guy? Or have they polled the potential GMs and know that none of them have an interest in hiring Frazier?

I think the latter. It's one reason that I like the wide net approach. You can almost crowdsource HC candidates by what the GM candidates say and vice versa for the GM. That's not a literal statement, but the Bears could be making a simple Venn diagram of who everyone likes and who everyone is concerned about.

The other thing is you get to hear 10 GM candidates tell you what is wrong with your team and how to fix it. There must be some level of common answers that are irrefutable even to non-football guys like George.

Seems weird to go into GM hires and be like, "hey how do you feel about these guys we've interviewed?" I'm sure it happens, but I feel like most guys would be like, "IDK dude, I've never worked with Leslie Frazier". I could see not getting a huge ringing endorsement from Schoen and basing it off that, but most of these candidate's opinions wouldn't matter until the meet guys themselves in an interview setting.

Well one team has hired their GM and two teams have not (not counting LV since they got a late start).

If given the choice I'm happy if their search looks more like Minny than NYG.

What if.....I know, long shot.....but what if there is more than 1 good candidate?

It's tough to get GM candidates in to interview with Virginia before her 3:30pm supper and 4:15 bed time

Don't forget the daily Bridge game from 2-330pm

thats kind of the point, raw. McCaskeys had time to start the search, interview people, and even ponder the meaning of life. There are probably more then one good candidate for GM and HC, but if you are serious about developing Fields there is really only the best choice. Judging by the glacier pace of the process, McCaskey either doesn't feel that developing Fields is a priority or he's too dense to understand how to do that.

good points, otoh I wish (after decades of being entirely immersed in it) Geo would develop some football sense of his own. alas....crowdsourcing and Venn diagrams it is!

This is kind of interesting if I'm hearing this in the right context:

What context are you hearing it in?

The question was about Payton's future with NO. The speculation is him possibly retiring and the Saints have no reason to let him out of his contract to join another team unless he forced his way out but as has been discussed on the internet, Payton will probably be linked to Chicago if he leaves NO

I know its gasping at straws but this GM/coaching search is boring me right now.

There's so many good GM candidates this year, it's hard to screw it up. They should have figured this out by last week and started the coaching search.

There's also speculation he would have big broadcast offers waiting for him. Wouldn't be the first guy to retire from coaching relatively young and leave the grind behind while he's still young enough to enjoy his millions and make comparable (or more?) money talking football 17 times a year for 3 hours.

Ugh, defensive guys and Caldwell. Ill figure out how to get behind whoever they hired but I'm not a big fan of these names. Maybe they pick the right guy and finally turn the corner, but these seem like guys a crappy organization like the Bears would hire.

Too bad the Bears didn't do the right thing last year and fire Nagy. My favorite defensive coach was out there and with Bears ties. Brandon Staley is more inspiring than most of these defensive names. I do like Eberflus though. WTF do I know though, just get it right.

Also these seem like names that a 80 year old former NFL executive who hasn't worked in the league for the better part of a decade would pick.

Jim Caldwell? seriously?

I'm not a fan of any of those names but of them I like Caldwell the most. Definitely not exciting but has an offensive background, is a players coach, and has led good offenses, though he seems to be a low ceiling guy based on his tenures with the Colts and Lions.

yuk. Id love to be proven wrong, but I'm just not sold

Dan Quinn would be the worst possible hire not named Leslie Frazier. Complete disaster in Atlanta after Shanahan left. Started every season awful and then won enough meaningless games to save his job.
