The cycle of no competitiveness in CFB is just perpetuated when the same 3-4 teams get all the best recruits because they're always in the playoffs, and round and round we go

It would seem pretty simple from a competitive standpoint to set up a legit playoff. Five Big 5 teams - conferences pick their champion - one team per conference. 3 from other 5 conferences and independents - perhaps they have a play in game (unfair but better than current system).

 

Claiming logistics is [expletive] - they could totally make this happen. It's 10 games.

I've long since accepted the playoff is getting bigger, but if people think that after that happens, the best CFB recruits are going to start spreading to all the different schools, in defiance of every single scintilla of evidence in the history of the sport, they'll be disappointed.

Oh, I have no illusion that an 8 team playoff changes the recruiting dynamics. That ship has sailed. MAYBE if/when Saban retires, Alabama will fall back to the pack in the SEC a bit, and I don't know what happens to Clemson if Sweeney goes away, but Ohio State didn't miss a step going from Meyer to Day
