I guess they value Russell as a backup SS? Oh well when do rosters expand? Do they still expand in September?

I would assume it's because he'll just be back up in a few weeks, and can get regular starts in the meantime. He was really damn bad in June and July, though had bounced back a bit in August with a .400 .556 .500 1.056 line, though that was in only 27 PA and with a whopping .444 BAbip.

Because he’s been really horsefeathering bad for a while, can’t hit FBs above his waist and has been bricking a ton of balls in the field (for a good fielder). Worth letting him hit a re-set in Iowa for 2 weeks here before September. I thought he should’ve been down a while ago to get a break and figure things out because I think there’s still talent there.

They’ve invested guaranteed money in him so they are going to do everything they can to make sure he has some value to them long term. I guess you can say that about any prospect that can help them win but they obviously see something in him to want to lock him up through his arb years.

It would have been a different scenario if Baez hadn't gotten sick. Called up Russell in case Baez didn't get better. Can'tcall him back up for 10 days if Baez needs a day off.

Are you suggesting the Cubs were quick to ship Bote down to the minors? Maybe a little bit overboard? Maybe he had a row with a teammate or coach and the Cubs are giving him a stern punishment

Not liking this out of spite for some lame ass posts in your history. Canoe make more like this?

60 PAs in the second half with a .286/.417/.408 line. Granted, a lot of that is propped up by a .394 BABIP, as Sofa mentioned, but a 15% walk rate is pretty solid. With us carrying two catchers, we basically just sent down our top bat off the bench to carry 9 relievers and essentially play with a 2 man bench.

I hear ya but he’s still looked bad and fucked up a ton in the field. I do wonder if maybe this is just a move for tomorrow and indicative of them not being sure of Hamels, then do another move Wednesday.

So every team doesn't carry 14 pitchers? :D

Seriously, my guess is that they wanted Cishek back right away and the only pitcher with options is Wick who's pitching well which means they had to send down a position player to make room for him. They probably saw Bote as both the most expendable and the most likely to benefit from some regular playing time at Iowa.

Bote's been bad lately. He's not hitting well, he's not fielding well. Schwarber and Happ both were sent down when they were struggling to rebuild confidence...it makes sense for the same to happen with Bote...even if just for a couple of weeks.

It'd be real nice if we could send Strop down for the last couple weeks of AAA, pitch him every third day, and see if there's anything worth salvaging this year. Unfortunately for us, and fortunately for him, he's earned better treatment than that.

He was horrible for a couple months but over his last 50 PA he hit 300 with a 400 OBP. It's just too bad Kemp is out of options because that guy sucks and is wasting a roster spot right now.
