I heard several members of the team plan to spend the day at Fisherman's wharf hoping to see an old friend

This is might be the biggest game of the year as we can't afford to lose another series on the road before we play 4 series in a row vs winning teams, 3 of which are in the division.

Sad stat of the day is that the Cubs catchers haven't picked up a hit in the last 7 games.

Lol, no it is not.

Also Willy is back tomorrow, so the catcher stats improve quite a bit.

I mean, it is definitely not the biggest game of the year.

Which one is has been bigger?

If we lose this we haven't won a road series since Mid-May and St Louis could tie us on the loss side. We would be facing a sweep that would push SF 3 games over .500 and take away a potential trade partner who has 3 BP guys we could use. Starting 0-2 on a 9 game trip (8 before the deadline) and falling to 18-29 on the road could set us up to not add big or potentially sell if the rest of the trip is bad and slip to 3rd.

This is 100% the biggest game of the year. knock off Mad-Bum, build on Yu's last two starts and then you get a 4.70 ERA guy vs Lester with a chance to snap the drought on the road and have some momentum going into Miller Park.

Any game against Milwaukee or St. Louis, for starters. I understand that losing this game would hit all these weird panic triggers for you, but us winning tonight isn't going to magically turn SF into a seller, much less a seller to us, 1-1 vs 0-2 to start a roadtrip doesn't really change anything, and I'm not sure why 19-28 is any better than 18-29.

Less remaining margin for error with 62 games left with less home games and taking place at a make or break time directly before the lone deadline. The next Cardinals and Brewers series will end up being the biggest games of the year as well since if we bottom out on this trip we could end up selling.

We have just 6 home games in the next 24 and those home games are the Brewers and the 57-44 A's this game and every road game the rest of the way is massive if you want to make the playoffs.

Ah. So it's the biggest game of the year in the sense that every game is the biggest game of the year.

No the way we've played on the road has made this trip way bigger on top of the fact that it falls at the deadline, and a bad trip here could push Theo to stand pat and save his assets for a later date or even sell falling to 3rd. If we played like the Yankees or Dodgers this game wouldn't matter right now.

With more road games than home games left and being tied with Miami for the fewest road wins in the NL we can't eat too many more road losses and ever one we do makes it that much harder to ever come close to getting near .500 on the road, and this trip needs to show Theo we have the ability yo win on the road enough to buy.

If you want to say this 9 game road trip is the most important trip of the year (so far)...sure, you're probably right. Milwaukee, St. Louis, makes sense.

If you want to say this particular game, against a non-division team, in July, where we've gone 7-3 in our last 10, is the most important game of the year...no, you're 100% wrong.

Yes they can win at home, the issue is winning on the road 18-28 which they have more of the rest of the year. That 7-3 in the last 10 was topped by St Louis who could tie us on the loss side tonight and starting to win on the road and have got very little from some of its best players and have 5 more home games. Then you have the Giants factor as beating us pushes them towards keeping their team together for the manager on his way out and they have 2 of the Cubs bigger needs in LHP one of which can pitch late in games.

When losing this series can change Theo's direction at the deadline and we already lost the first game this game its 100% the biggest one of the year to date.

Is he for sure back tomorrow or is he eligible to come off the IL tomorrow?

Gonzales tweeted yesterday something like the expectation is for him to be back tomorrow and catch Lester.
