Cub minor league pitcher of the month for June, Jack Patterson has a ways to go, but he's up to his old tricks again today, shutting out the Carolina Mudcats through 5.1 bringing his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 23.1.

 

Interestingly, both the minor league and major league records are the same length, 59 innings. Orel Hershiser did it for the Dodgers in '88 and Irvin Wilhelm set the minor league mark in 1907 for the Birmingham Barons.

Alzolay left his start with the Iowa Cubs with an apparent arm injury at Principal Park. The right-hander walked off the field with team athletic trainer Mike McNulty with two outs recorded in the top of the fourth inning.

 

"He came out and he said his arm just didn't feel right," said Iowa manager Marty Pevey. "That's all I know at this point."

Sucks Alzolay got hurt again. I don't have faith he would ever stay healthy enough to count on as a SP, but I felt that before today and would been fine with sending him to KC as part of a package to get Merrifield. Hope I'm wrong since his trade value has tanked with this latest injury and poor results after those 4 inning appearances.

 

Whats the deal with Alex Guerra still being in AZ after a .800+ OPS there last year and now mashing it for a 1.200+ OPS being way too old to still be there?
