It's unfathomable to me that we're in year 5 of this cycle and this is the 4th time we've been an absolute horsefeathering disaster with RISP (and even in 16 we were a touch below average). I'm not sure the 'no such thing as clutch' rule applies with that large a sample size

i can already tell that risp nonsense will be a big talking point of the organization in the winter, instead of actually talking about why they have known bad players getting so much regular playing time

Maybe having 3-5 black holes in the lineup behind the good guys who get on base and are good has something to do with the RISP thing. Oh bad hitters like Russell, Almora, Descalso, Cargo, Vic, etc are bad at hitting with RISP. Shocking.

Also the whole teams who get on base a lot have a lower BA w/RISP because of more opportunities but that’s only part of it with the garbage we’re trotting out there.

:dontknow: At least a couple of us have bitched about the need for more bats, only to be upbraided.

Anyway, Kimbrel should be fun. Hope he has enough late leads to matter.

Whatever, this is frustrating and sucks right now but we’re still in first and the best team in the division. The improvements needed are on the margins and should be easy enough to do before the deadline plus we get Kimbrel up tomorrow. We are still good.

I'm on team 'there's no such thing as bad hitting', but you may be on to something considering the best player in our line up hasn't batted in the top 3 once this year, which has probably led to a lot of garbage ABs with him in a scoring position.

Then again, if you change the metric to hitting with guys on base, we have the 5th highest wRC and the best OBP in the league. Given that, I can't really see how it's anything but luck. Unless this is totally line up driven (KB and Rizzo walk a ton, so Baez and Contreras come up with a guy on, but not in scoring position, then by the time people get to scoring position, you're left with the Almoras of the world). But you would think that would be a league wide issue, not just a Cubs thing.

Just get into the crapshoot

The Cubs certainly to be in A crapshoot of some kind at the moment.

They’re a mediocre borefest and three months more of this sounds miserable so backing into the playoffs and hoping for fun is what I got

Came for the Super Cubs ended up getting Hope for a Heater Cubs. Again, if they blow that game 7 in 2016, the population control that would have occurred in Chicago at this point would have been a great social experiment.
