Maddon needed to go and move on -- we all agree on that. This is a good hire for the Angels IMO. I think Maddon is good at turning a team around and building a loose, fun clubhouse. Builds good relationships with his players and takes the pressure off initially. I think eventually you get diminishing returns and a lack of accountability (for himself and his players).

I think 3 years is the perfect length for hiring Maddon. If they fix their pitching and/or sign Cole and some other FA pitchers (plus get the amazing two-way capable Ohtani back at full strength) I think they'll be playoff contenders. Finally get a full healthy 9+ WAR season from Trout. Maybe Houston and Oakland take a step back next year...

I'm grateful for what Maddon did and I'm not going to insult him going forward (unless he starts criticizing Theo and his former players for what happened in Chicago at the end of his run here). He definitely was part of the problem and needed to go, but I can't say the Cubs absolutely win a WS in 2016 with another manager at the helm.

I was hoping the 2016 Cubs team winning the WS was the start of a dynasty (like most everyone here)... It wasn't. The FO made some mistakes and Maddon regressed as a manager. Still, I think we should be thankful and gracious for everything Maddon did even if his tenure here ended on a bad note.

Congrats Joe, but man the Angels are a horsefeathers show right now.

Yeah, on a positive lighter note, it'll be interesting to see if he can find creative ways to use Ohtani.

On a much more important darker note, this Skaggs situation could turn into a huge mess. I'm guessing there's a good amount of work being done behind the scenes to keep this out of the headlines during the playoffs.

The second part is what I was talking about. I live out here and it sounds really bad.

It's definitely not Gene Autry's team anymore.
