Roederer just took Corey Black yard for his 2nd bomb in the past 2 games. Had already walked and stole another base before that. Gonna have to ask AZPhil what he looks like defensively in CF, because he's been great at the plate so far.

So we drafted Mookie Betts (Nico) and Benintendi (Roederer). Nice

I thought Davis was supposed to be getting the Mookie comp, given his performance on the mental skills testing? Nico can be taller Dustin Pedroia.

I was happy enough with the Ian Kinsler comp.

Ahem, Ian Kinsler with better defense.

Delvin Zinn with his third multi hit game in a row. He opened the weekend pushing the Mendoza line IIRC and is now hitting .277. There's nothing else good about his season line but he has cut down on striking out and is putting more balls in the air.

Lange's pitching really well and Jose Gutierrez is 1/2 while holding a roster spot for DL Wilson.

Josue Huma and Yonathan Perlaza, a couple switch hitting IFA signings, both had multiple hits including a double in the Cubs 1 v Cubs 2 AZL game...Luis Verdugo, signed last year out of Mexico, had 3 hits including a 2B and 3B

I like that they keep throwing Bruzual and Ocampo out there. Those guys must have relatively decent arms to get the workloads they get, but neither seems to have any idea how to pitch. They've done some good - missed some bats, kept the ball in the park, don't really get hit around...Ocampo mysteriously disappeared for 2017.

Ha! DL Wilson. I love it!

Ocampo was shut down in early August of 2016 with elbow issues. He pitched (poorly) in ExST in 2017 but was shut down again and placed on the 60-day DL on June 24th without pitching in a game.

With Bruzual, I guess it depends on what you mean by "good arm", but his FB velo (obviously not the be all end all) was reportedly 86-88 at last check. Do you have something more up to date that's different?

Neither Bruzual or Ocampo are on my radar at all, but I think Ocampo had TJS last year.

Yeah, that was my recollection as well, but I couldn't remember ever finding confirmation.

And no, neither of them are guys worth following at this point. There would have to be some huge jumps in development for them to be on the prospect map.

Fernando Kelli did his best El Mago impersonation in the 3rd inning. He leads off with a walk. Steals 2nd. Gets bunted over to 3rd. The pitcher then throws the ball away on a pick-off attempt and Kelli scores the tying run.

Oh, ya gotta love Brailyn Marquez single-handedly saving the Cubs organization's pitching prospect list after losing Alzolay to injury, De La Cruz to suspension and Albertos to Steve Blass disease.

5 starts, 1 ER in each of them. Gotta love consistency. 21.2 IP, 13 H, 7 BB, 29 K, 2.08 ERA, 0.92 WHIP with the stuff to match.

He hit 99 tonight as well. I think he's our best (at least most intriguing) pitching prospect at the moment. Gotta love the command and BB rates for a guy with his stuff. Wonder how aggressive they will be in pushing him?

I wonder how fast Fernando Kelli is and whether he is the fastest player in the system? And by fastest I'm talking about among our prospects and not some no-name scrub or late rounder.

He has plus speed, but I don't know if it's grade 60 or 70. Good question for Kiley McDaniel or Eric Longenhagen during their chats.

He could see some games in South Bend this season. Eugene isn't likely to make the playoffs and there's increasingly little reason to keep him there. Richan is the only other guy likely to get promoted as a starter. If Tyler Thomas gets bumped up, who knows...

So, the rumors about Lange stepping in a bear trap last night are true I guess...

Lange is doing what was expected of him, Marquez is moving way up, when others have faltered.

That's just the ebb and flow of a normal farm system. De La Cruz and Albertos have faded, but Alzolay hasn't. He's shutdown, but no surgery. He's just as big a prospect as was to start the year.

And, Marquez hasn't been the only one to step up. Underwood and Clifton have reestablished themselves as prospects, and Steele's quick return from TJS has been a nice surprise. The biggest mover is probably James Norwood, where did he come from?!? I don't remember seeing him on any prospect list with his 5+ ERA in AA. Now he's throwing 97mph heaters in the Majors with Maddon pimping at every turn.

I don't agree with this at all. Any season-ending arm injury to a pitching arm is damning enough, with or without surgery, but then his performance when on the field was decidedly meh. It was only 8 starts, but he was striking out 2 guys less per 9 than last year in AA, while still throwing loads of flyballs. You have to be really, really optimistic to think his prospect star hasn't dimmed at least a little.

And this may be more semantics than anything, but how have Underwood and Clifton reestablished themselves as prospects? Neither have been great this year, and neither have glowing reports coming out. If by "prospect", do you mean "maybe could be a 26th man in a double-header" type of thing?

Oh my.

If that is true that is massive. And he's throwing a high % of strikes too. Fast track him.
