I don’t understand why the Cubs have made Yu scrap his splitter.

Is this confirmed? I know there was an article last week talking about Yu only using 2-3 of his pitches.

Just read it. It’s Athletic so subscriber so I’ll just post this bit:

During the spring, there was a lot of discussion of Darvish using his changeup and curveball more often. But according to Pitch Info, through seven starts Darvish’s curveball usage is down to a career-low 3.4 percent; the changeup is being flashed occasionally at 2.6 percent.

“We go into every game wanting him – and he’s the same way – wanting to use everything,” run prevention coordinator Tommy Hottovy told me. “But once the game goes on, depending on the situation, your human nature is always going to be that when stuff gets tight, you’re going to your bread-and-butter pitches. But as he uses his curveball more, split more and uses them in situations or counts he’s not used to using them, he’ll get more confidence. And then you’ll see him use and trust those pitches in more of those situations where he would normally go to the four-seam or slider.”

Some of the justification for using the FB/slider so much is that Yu has multiple variants to his slider.

This HP ump is pretty garbage. He’s having where both catchers catch the ball affect his ball/strike calls way too much. Mahle and Yu both have had 2-4 pitches in the zone called balls because of how it was received.

But for real, now that Happ is hitting there's no need to force Heyward in the lineup, aside from weird Sunday day game lineups.

Some of these pitches aren't even getting received poorly; this ump just doesn't have a good understanding of the zone.

Now that we are almost to June and Zobrist has already contributed, it's kind of cool that we are going to get value in the back half of his contract even though he already earned the entire portion of it in his first season.

He earned the value with just 1 hit.

It was in Cleveland. Extra inning game that happened in November.

The idea the Cubs don't have a leadoff hitter this season is proving to be false. Now that he's healthy, Ben is pretty great at it.

Yeah Zobrist when right is a great option. But yeah we have 8 guys with OBPs over .350 right now and 6 over .360 and Rizzo isn’t included in that and you know he’ll be there. The whole team gets on base a ton, who really cares if we “have a leadoff hitter” or not.
