I've been following it, and all I can say is that I hope the WSOP becomes an invitational in the upcoming years. ESPN's telecast of the event has made it a traveshamockery. Now the whole damn thing is a crapshoot, bad players= bad beats galore! With Scotty Nguyen out, Phil Ivey out, Johnny Chan, John Juanda, Men the Master, etc...it sucks. Fortunately, I can root for somebody, Take it to the house, Mike McClain! I was hoping Mike would be able to push his stack, but despite having $1,001,000 in chips, he is seat 1 at Table 109, four of the other seven at 109 have bigger stacks (including Dan freakin Harrington). I hope Mike busts Dan's ass up tomorrow. The funny thing is if you watch the re-broadcasts from last year's WSOP on ESPN, they show Mike's reaction to losing a big hand to Amir Vahedi. The only thing is, Mike never sat at a table with Vahedi. How's that for [expletive] editing, ESPN! Ya bastards.

Good luck, Mike

yea, the late night was a little disappointing but he's still in good position and has enough to not be leveraged too badly. he may have gotten conservative after Tuesday night - this is his description of the last hand he played Tuesday -

I got moved to another table, and it was also fairly tough. It did

> have one nutcase there.... Chuck the Dealer from Bay101. He plays

> like [expletive], but had somehow amassed about $500k in chips.

>

> My stack was at $310k with about 15 minutes left, and I was

> already calculating my stack size if I didn't play any more hands.

> Then I get dealt aces in the small blind. The guy I trashed before

> with my QJ hand makes it $17k, and I raise it to $40k, figuring

> he might give me some action. Holy [expletive]... Chuck in the big blind

> makes it $140k, the other guy folds, and I put all $300k into

> the pot. Chuck calls in a flash, and turns over KK.

>

> I'm loving it, baby!!! Cameras rush over to film the hand, since

> the pot is [expletive] huge. Flop come KT6... jesus mf christ gd mf.

> I am unable to breathe, since it feels like a just took a baseball

> bat to the chest. My brain has no oxygen as the turn and river

> cards are revealed... ten.... then an ace!

>

> When I last saw Chuck, he did not look so good.

>

> So I've got $604k.... I find it shocking that I have to get this lucky

> again for two more days just to get to the final table. I don't know

> how anybody wins.

I like this quote too:

"I was thinking to myself how poorly the guy in the 9 seat plays - he just

> plays a lot of hands and always limps in, never raising. A little later I

> got a better look at him and realized it was Doyle Brunson, heh."

more on Doyle . . .

for the curious there is a video of this event

> >

> >

>

> that's a pretty funny video. I was completely disgusted that

> I was not the one to bust him, and then the standing ovation

> for him was apalling. I was not at his table for very long, but

> he certainly did not impress me.

>

> tomorrow is going to be a brutal day. there are a lot of tough

> players remaining. we're playing down to the final table (nine

> players), and it might take until 3am for that. If I can survive

> and build a bigger stack by the time we get down to 18 remaining,

> the game will get quite tight, since the payouts will increase at

> a much more rapid rate. That will be the time to bluff at will.

>

> My chances of making it through the day are about 35-40%.

> I'd just like to be a luckbox for one more day, please. well,

> maybe two more days.

So, I see raw is another Chappelle's show fan.

You might like this, then. I have another league with the guys I work with at Delmonico. My team name...Habitual Linesteppers.

Charlie Murphy's true Hollywood stories!!!

Also, I can sense that Vik barely follows the WSOP. Jeez.

Good luck to Mike.

Heh. Charlie Murphy is a genius! The True Hollywood Stories actually are true for the most part. Just a little exaggeration.

BTW, my voice mail on my cellphone, I took from the end of Chappelle's show, "I'm rich, bitch!"

Yep. His Rick James story will go down as one of the funniest sketches of all time.

The 2nd season clearly outclasses the first. The Real World sketch is the only one that compares. Once again, credit Charlie Murphy as Tyree. It was also the birthplace of Tron.

Thief! I, too, have a team called the Habitual Linesteppers in the A's board league. Ask BRS. :D

I'd like to nominate the Playa Haters Ball from Season 1 as another which stands up to the better Season 2. The DVD outtakes from that sketch and Mad Real World are also well worth the price of admission.

That's awesome, BRS. I watch all things poker on TV. Dood luck to Mike.

I loved both of those skits. No love to Clayton Bigsby the black white supremacist? And Reperations? But yeah, the 2nd season has been much better. Wayne Brady, Rick James, Prince, all just crazy!

Clayton Bigsby and Reparartions are also the better ones. The first season was just very hit and miss. Not the case with season 2.

Fif.

I forgot about Clayton Bigsby.

But I have to agree with smacca on season 1 vs. season 2, probably a better way to put it.

Heh. I'll be in Iowa this weekend. I am now, in fact. We have good timing, I must say.

Jason Sagle and Hung La both eliminated by Mike McClain.

Sagle moved in and La moved in behind him. Fullerton contemplated for several minutes, then mucked. McClain called. Sagle had A-10, La had A-K, and McClain had K-K. The board came 7-5-2-Q-8. When the 8 hit the river, the announcer said "It's an eight!", which sounded a lot like "It's an ace!", and Sagle/La supporters started to applaud. Unfortunately for them, it was, in fact, an eight.

After the hand, Fullerton disclosed that he had folded A-Q, meaning Sagle and La were drawing to the single remaining ace.

alas, lady luck turns against us -

David Williams gets all in preflop with K-9 offsuit against Michael McClain's J-J. The board comes J-Q-4-6-X with four clubs. Williams makes an unlikely club flush on the river, and doubles up to about $650,000.

Survivable though.

Very nice! Latest - down to 16 - Mike has $1.6 chips - putting him in a big bunch in that range but well behind Raymer.

Sweet! Ive been checking periodically all day after reading the initial post. I love poker! About once a month, my buddies and I try to get about 10-12 guys to play, $100 to buy in. Last time we played, I left with around $550. Sure as hell isn't comparible to the big time, but it sure is fun!

[expletive] this. This is precisely what I'm talking about.

Wired Jacks, makes a trip on the flop. Now granted, Williams went all in pre-flop, and so the odds weren't immeasurably bad, but the [expletive] makes a four on the board flush. Get out of here with that [expletive]. Bad beat.

Ok, I'm calm.
