4. Chicago Bears

Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen: It's early and this is an aggressive ranking, but the Bears check in this high because these are two backs who stress you in such different ways. Howard is an exceptional blend of power and creativity in yards after contact -- he had the third-most rushing yards after contact in 2016 (561) -- while Cohen is a pint-sized ankle breaker. The trick with Cohen is this: You can be fundamentally sound in your scheme to slow him down, but you better be fundamentally sound as tacklers, too.

Poor guy goes to a game where they score like 10 goals and has no idea what hockey is really like.

Can anyone with Insider let me know if the Bears have an elite ranking?

When the entire season is over and I win my bet, will that be a big enough sample size?

Just take the L and be done with it. This is embarrassing.

Anybody buying puts on the bears are still in-the-money.

Nothing embarrassing yet.

25% of the way through the season, the Bears are 12th in YPG and 7th in YPC.

You may want to rethink who is winning this argument.

LOL sure thing

They're low in yards per game because Glennon has been getting their asses kicked. 7th in yards per carry when defenses have had zero to worry about in the pass game is damn good. I cannot overstate how terrible Mike Glennon was. He is gone now.

Other than just insisting on thinking anything else is stupid, how do you back up the claim that they are an elite rushing team? Don't we usually use data around here for things like that?

How somebody could have watched the game against Pittsburgh and come away thinking they don't have a great rushing attack is beyond me. The Green Bay game was a comedy of errors due almost entirely to the shitty quarterback and is deflating already good numbers.

Not to mention you know last year's full season against your small sample of games in which they actually have another very good running back they didn't have last year.

But hey, the bears were ranked 4th in that piece for no good reason. There's obviously favoritism in play for a team that is widely lampooned as a terrible team nationally.

Do you have no stats other than some random ranking that puts us outside of the top 10%.

Gotcha.

I bet you put a lot of stock into April batting averages too

Your argument was how they looked in one game.

Tim, give it up and stop proclaiming yourself good at arguments.

I would like to be proven wrong here. I really would.

But the crux of the argument espoused by you and David previously was that I was only using one game to form my argument. We've played four games now, which is 1/4 of the season, and now David's argument is based on "they looked amazing in that one drive against the Steelers". Meanwhile, I'm presenting hard numbers that use the entire information for the season to date. Whether you believe they are going to be an elite running team this year or not, the simple facts of the matter show that they have not been anything close to elite so far.

I'll stop talking about it if you guys do.

No, we already gave you the chance to stop talking.

They fell behind quickly and hopelesslly in two games with a QB that no one respects. If you could weight their ground attack, adjusting it by quarterback, they would be #1.

The real season hasn't even started yet and they've already run for 220 yards on the Steelers. You may want to sit down while you still can.

I mean, there's a lot of untenable statements in what you've said. you invite people to publicly chastise you for saying things like "Jordan Howard kind of sucks," so you're probably just doubling down on hot takes, though.

The full statement there (paraphrased) was that Jordan Howard kind of sucks so far and that he might be battling some injury we don't know about. Which was not an unreasonable stance to take at that point in time. I got some agreement on that, also.
