I don't know what the deal is with Carl, but this probably shouldn't be that unexpected. He walked over 6 per 9 in AA in 2015. He walked over 6 per 9 in AAA in 2015. He walked over 6 per 9 in AAA last year. The immediate success he had at the majors probably blinded us some. I know my view of him has shifted dramatically. But he's had bouts of not being able to find the plate for years now.

Now, it shouldn't be this bad. He's walking more than a guy per inning over the last month-and-a-half. But he might settle in somewhere in between the lights out guy that we thought we had and this mess. Since he obviously hasn't overcome his bouts of wildness, my expectations for him are certainly tempered.

I'm not sure if he's worn out or what. But, he can still be a fine reliever, even if he has some control issues. And I don't think there's anything to be learned in the minors. Unless this continues and you simply can't rely on him to pitch in a major league game, I'd just stick him in the Grimm role and have him work mop-up duty for a while until he straightens himself out.

I'm thinking that Carl Jr.'s just taxed.

Possibly. I hope it's that and he's not having some sort of mental issue.

No need to overthink this. He's always had control issues. He's having control issues now. His stuff is good enough to get past it a lot of time.
