Is Vosler becoming an actual prospect? He's 23, so a decent age for AA. Now sitting on a 460 wOBA with a 280 BABIP, 12% BB/16% K. Gotta imagine if he keeps up something like a 400 wOBA through June he could be coveted in trade talks.

"Coveted" seems very strong. He can be the Rashad Crawford piece in a 4 player trade for a rental. Or maybe the McKinney piece. But, these guys aren't who make or break deals, so I don't think too much about guys in our 15-45 range. That part gets figured out, its the "De La Cruz can be yours, but Clifton can't be" and higher up the food chain than them, that gets deals done.

In this exact case, for him to become MORE than that type of piece, I'd think he'd need to put up an .850 OPS or so, for the entire year, for teams to buy in......He was sub-.700 at both A ball levels and this could just be his "one shining moment" in his baseball career.

On Vosler ... it really comes down to how much of this power development is real. The most likely guess/outcome is that this is a flash-in-the-pan, like davell said, his one shining moment.

If this power holds, though ... and that's a big IF ... I could see him worm his way into being say, the number 2 or 3 guy in a trade, a bit more valuable than the Rashad Crawford, lottery ticket. That's a huge IF, though. IF it happens, heck ... Cubs may not want to deal him just yet unless he can become the prime piece in a deal (again, not expecting it). After all, Vosler's a fairly versatile guy (has played 2nd/SS/3rd before and could likely swing to the OF if necessary), with a solid enough approach at the plate.

Really, our coveted pieces at the deadline are likely going to be the same names bandied around for awhile. With how some pitchers have struggled, it may really come down to say, Jeimer Candelario and Ian Happ, and it's good that both have gotten off to solid enough starts. I still gotta think that someone, a rebuilding team, particularly an AL team, would have interest in Candelario as a short term 3rd baseman, until someone else comes along, at which point, he would probably go to first.

Yeah that's pretty much what I meant. Not sought after, but certainly a guy who perks up the scouts enough to go on the list. Or maybe he just goes to Iowa after we trade Candy.

On Jeimer, does anybody think a trade with Atlanta could happen for one of their young arms? They're currently getting absolutely nothing from the 3B position. They wouldn't trade Newcomb probably but Folty seems to be coming along and would be a nice MORP. Plus their farm is also loaded.

horsefeathers Hector just did that

From the "don't look now" file, Dillon Maples started off the season with an unsurprising outing. Two-thirds of an inning, 2 hits, 1 run (earned), 3 walks, no Ks with 4 strikes out of 16 pitches thrown.

Since then, however, he's been Myrtle Beach's best and, gulp, most consistent reliever next to Craig Brooks. HIs line for his last 9 appearances reads:

16.1 IP, 9 H, 2 ER, 6 BB, 26 K, 0.92 WHIP, 1.10 ERA while throwing 66% of his pitches for strikes (150 out of 228). Hitters are batting less than .175 against him during that stretch, and he's allowed 3.3 BB/9 while K'ing 14.3 per 9.

Talk about coming back from the dead.

Maples turns 25 on May 9th. His stats are fairly meaningless given his level. I'm not saying he should be promoted soon, but I'm interested to see what he can do against AA hitters. And THAT is something I never thought I'd be writing this season.

I almost mentioned Maples last night, and then started Verducci's book and saw his name again ironically enough. It'll be interesting how quickly they push him, he's Rule 5 eligible so combined with his age there's at least some urgency.
