Didn't they also get rid of the neighborhood play? Because the second baseman also wasn't on the base.

Yep but I'm guessing the same goes for that out because of the slide anyway

Ok what is the runner supposed to do when the defender is standing on the bag like that?

Eh, it's pretty easy not to roll over the base like a big oaf. That was pretty clearly against the rules. I thought Maddon might also challenge because the fielder's foot wasn't on the base when he caught the ball.

The illegal slide and blocking the plate replays are terrible because they will never be called consistently to everyone's satisfaction. If you don't call it live then it stands.

I'm still not fully Team David, because I love Javy's defense so much. I love Almora, too, and I absolutely want him playing more. He's just not playing enough for my liking. And I will move over wholeheartedly if Javy keeps struggling this much at the plate.

Right now, I don't think it's too much of a deal for our team defense, whether Zobrist is at second or RF. He kinda sucks at second, too. And I think his play in RF has stood out a little because he has had quite a few tough balls hit out to him and quite a few times he's had to use his arm. I think it's probably been an inordinate amount, and that it wouldn't usually cost us as much as it has so far.

I will say this, though. In the Dream Lineup scenario with a DH, I'm probably keeping Schwarber in LF and moving Zobrist to DH.

I think I'd rather have a set outfield with Almora and Heyward and then mix and match Zobrist and Javy. In a six-game week Zobrist gets four starts and Javy two, with Javy still getting in late in a lot of games and also getting starts when Addy and Bryant get a day off.

The worst part of that rule is that the slide had no bearing on the play. They aren't getting Bryant anyway. He's only been doubled up like twice in his whole career, anyway. And they weren't getting him there. So a weird slide costs us a base runner, because we have to have some cut-and-dry rule for a play that should probably be left to interpretation.

The problem with the slide rule, is that they had to make it, because they stopped calling outs at 2nd base that made any sense. The neighborhood play meant that guys were sliding into 2nd all over the place to break up double plays. Getting rid of crazy slides would have been natural if you just get rid of the neighborhood play, no need for any new rules.

The same nonsense is true with the "sliding lane" into home. I've never seen that call made correctly. Ever.

Wait, Maddon isn't wearing a jersey??

Becoming more of a trend for managers not to I have noticed. Couldn't tell you the last time I saw Clint Hurdle in a jersey.

Exactly how I'd like to see it play out

I feel like I say this every time the conversation comes up, but Zobrist is the best hitter on the team that doesn't get MVP votes. Him regularly playing only 2 of 3 games is bad.

He's old as hell so I don't have a huge issue with it for him. It might be best for his production. I'm not saying exactly 2/3...i'd be closer to 3/4, but yea.

Good Lord, Happ
