Love the new nickname for New Orleans. Went from the Zephyrs (which is still pretty cool) to the Baby Cakes. WTF? Awesome.

The mascot, spoilered for size:

I hated it at first, but it has grown on me. It's not like anyone went to games, anyway.

Happ with a 2B and a strong 7IP from Butler:

7IP, 4H, 1ER, 3BB, 1K.

Kinda odd with just 1K, but that isn't a normal issue for him... It's real nice to have him in AAA. Can't remember the last time the Cubs had a guy sitting in AAA that I felt good about coming in starting a few games if needed.

11-5 groundout/flyout ratio out of Butler tonight. He's being economical, 92 pitches in 7 innings. He's going to help us this year and slide into a fulltime spot next year. Its a pretty exciting time for our minor league pitching, at this point. In order, I'd rank them like this....

1. Dylan Cease

2. Trevor Clifton

3. Oscar De La Cruz

4. Jose Albertos

5. Thomas Hatch

6. Duane Underwood

7. Alec Mills

8. Erling Moreno

9. Bailey Clark

10. Jose Paulino/Manuel Rondon

I'd put Mekkes at 7, if I was ranking relievers in this. But, I may have read Paulino was going to the pen too, can't remember.

This doesn't include Tseng, Hedges, Kellogg, Steele, Tyson Miller, Alzolay, or Morrison. Ryan Williams either. Damn near everyone currently in a Cubs minor league rotation has some semblance of major league upside. Which is awesome to see. Brailyn Marquez could wind up well inside the top 10 at some point this year and we may draft a guy or two at 27 and 30, or early on anyway, that makes this list too. Our depth looks great now and is going to start showing plenty of upside this year.

Jake Arrieta with the Cubs in 2013: 4.18 BB/9, 6.45 K/9, but also a .183 batting average against, while his GB% went up from 33.3% in Baltimore to 43.8% with us. The first step in the Bosio Transformation is in contact management. Next will come the K/BB. This is fine. Butler is just following procedure. The 2019 Cy Young will be his.

This Pedro Silverio cat has 13 Ks in 6.1 innings with just 1 walk and no hits allowed but he's a 22 y/o in SB

Apparently Silverio has a mid-90s FB with a good but not great curve and no 3rd pitch as of yet. He struggled with control last season but is off to a good start in that regard so far this year. The Cubs preach fastball command above all else. Perhaps he's made some strides with that and will attempt to add a change up once his FB command proves consistent. At 6'2", 210 lbs., he's got the body to stay as a starter, but if he doesn't add a 3rd pitch, he'll come out of the pen.

His age isn't a concern for me. Guys develop at different rates. He was a slightly older IFA sign back in 2012 and 22 is just a year old for Low A. Coming into this season, Silverio was an extreme long shot of ever being on the Cubs prospect map, but as we've seen of late, this Cubs scouting and developmental staff has a way of causing a handful of guys to jump up and onto prospect top 30 lists each year.

It's way too early for excitement to be fully justified for anybody, but if he keeps this up...

sure more Ks would be nice, but a GB specialist is money in the bank with the IF defense assembled for the parent team

like, watch Brett Anderson work a 2.80 ERA in the 100 innings we can coax out of him
