I know it’s not happening and I’ve sort of made peace with it but how hated would the Cubs be, first after these despicable off the field issues and then after hearing Phillies, Nats, White Sox were the Harper suitors all offseason the Cubs swoop in and get him

That very small sliver of false hope is the only thing between the needle and my forehead.

Who is he implying isn't in the pics?

Zo is the only one that I’ve heard is not yet at camp and the reason is something they called “personal issues”

Someone was saying they haven’t seen Heyward in photos since last week but I find it hard to believe the media wouldn’t have noticed/reported Heyward missing the past few days

Edit: nvm re: Heyward there are photos of him there yesterday

Pretty sure that's Heyward in the background and the photo is dated today.

So it sounds like he's hinting at a trade...not a signing.

I don’t think this guys actually knows anything. He’s just trying to connect dots that don’t exist on Zobrist’s absence. That being said I could see them thinking trading Zobrist to free up money for Kimbrel on a reduced deal makes sense.

It's clear what name he is seeing:

hot-ish take, Kimbrel would be much more beneficial to the 2019 Cubs than Harper.

completely obvious take - both is best.

FWIW he's claiming a reliable source. who knows if that just means it's his buddy at spring training telling him that zobrist isn't there.

Is it dumb to think that if this was purely about money, that Bryce would have signed with someone by now? Is there anything to the idea that the teams that are offering the contract he wants aren’t exciting him in terms of a ten year commitment?
Posted
I'd believe anything from no team has actually offered an actual contract yet to one or more of Dodgers/Cubs/Yankees are holding things up with a known interest to the Harper camp but are trying to do other things first. The scenario in the middle where all offers that are going to come in are in and he's just waiting seems the least possible but who knows.
Posted
Well apply that to Machado, then. If the rumors are true and that the biggest offers are from teams like the Padres and White Sox, it's not surprise that he's like "ehhhhhhhh" about signing

It's going to be extra annoying if this is a giant staring contest between Harper and Machado. Though, I bet if one of them signs to a non-Philly team first, Philly may go way overboard on the second.

I dont understand why the front office would prevent Zobrist from coming to camp all because of a possibility he may be traded. I cant imagine that would go over well in the clubhouse if that happened and the trade fell apart.
