I think this excerpt is appropriate, though I am a sucker for this poem.....

Under the smoke, dust all over his mouth, laughing with white teeth,

Under the terrible burden of destiny laughing as a young man laughs,

Laughing even as an ignorant fighter laughs who has never lost a battle,

Bragging and laughing that under his wrist is the pulse, and under his ribs the heart of the people,

Laughing!

-- from Chicago by Carl Sandberg (The autocorrect on this board corrects it to Sandberg with an "e" every time. lol)

In Chicago, the final wait for a Cubs win mixes joy and sorrow

A little dusty in here all the sudden...

What an article.

I mean, yes. growing up in rural Illinois, listening to the Cubs on the radio every afternoon while doing farm chores. Maybe my older sister would get $8 tickets and we could venture into Chicago and maybe they would win, maybe they would lose. All the players through the years, watching Wood pitch at the MetroDome while in college. Seeing one of my sisters give up and start following the Angels, life is tough when you marry a Cardinal fan. but last night, and through out the entire Series, I wore my fingers out texting with my sisters, my brother, my niece. Its funny how much this damn team ties so much together.

and yes, my sister is back in the fold.

Indeed. There are going to be (and probably already are) a ton of bandwagoners, but for the long suffering, being a Cubs fan wasn't so much a choice, but something that came through family indoctrination. As such, odds are all of us were close to at least one lifelong die hard Cubs fan who didn't make it here. Last night was mostly euphoria, but today is more comprehensively emotional as the full scope of the thing sets in.

Really cool of the Royals. Not sure why they would send the Cubs pizza though. Is this some sort of WS Handoff tradition?

Nevermind it apparently is

so many traditions we had no idea existed, until now

Silvy (from espn1000 waddle & silvy) epic rant from last year (when Cards were running away with the Division July 9th) that the Cubs are coming and coming hard. He says nothing the jean short wearing Cardinals fans can do to stop it.

This gave me goosebumps then but hearing it now gives me even more chills & tears me up.

One of my favorite parts about all of this is that the 2017 season is basically right around the corner. Like this is gonna be a short offseason.
