Ian Rice looks like he's playing horsefeathering tee ball down in South Bend. I imagine he moves up to Myrtle soon.

There's going to be a bunch of movement in the next few weeks with Eugene/Mesa starting and draft picks signing.

Dewees, who was in danger of fading into obscurity, just hit a game-tying HR in the bottom of the 9th. I believe South Bend clinches a playoff spot with a win tonight...

I read an article about Clifton's game on the opposing team's website. There was no mention of him getting injured. His performance was called "effective but inefficient" and it said he was removed after throwing 60 pitches in just 2.1 innings. My guess is the Cubs have some hard and fast rules about pitch counts in a given number of innings and Clifton simply reached it. When players get tired, their chances of getting injured goes way up.

It was to keep his pitch count low as he's pitching in the Carolina League ASG

Thanks, Win. I didn't think you'd have a guy traveling to an all-star game get lifted mid-inning for that.....

I believe I've read somewhere that they have a 30-pitch-inning limit.

Clifton certainly appears to have the stuff to be quite good. The command, different story, pretty evident he doesn't have big-league-caliber command. Will be interesting to see how that goes over time, and whether he'll stay healthy enough long enough to find out.

One of the other risks, I think, is that movement/stuff and wildness are intrinsically interconnected. Sometimes steps taken to solve the wildness, also come at the expense of the movement. Hopefully that won't be the story with Clifton.
