Some interesting results already today.

Jen-Ho Tseng had his 2nd consecutive strong start after coming back from rehabbing his shoulder going 6 IP allowing 5 hits, 1 run (earned), 1 BB and 2 K. Since coming back, he's pitched 11 IP allowing 7 hits, 1 ER, 2 BB and 7 K for a WHIP and ERA of 0.82.

Jacob Hannemann hit his 8th HR of the season tying his previous season high from 2014. It took him 487 at bats to reach that mark 2 years ago. This year he did it in nearly half that, 249.

An under the radar IFA signing this year was 17-year-old LHP Faustino Carrera out of Mexico. His signing was overshadowed by two other Mexican signings that of RHP Jose Albertos and SS Issac Paredes, both much more highly touted prospects. Carrera is slightly built (5'10", 165 lbs.) but doesn't turn 18 until next March, so he could still be growing and certainly should fill out. He's off to a good start. In his first two professional outings, he's pitched 10 IP (a 4 inning start followed by 6 innings today), allowed 3 hits, 0 runs, walked 3 while striking out 11.

In support of Carrera, his catcher, 17-year-old Miguel Amaya who is primarily touted for his excellent defense, hit his first professional HR today. He's now hitting .273 with a double and a HR, 3 walks and 4 Ks in 22 ABs. He's the 1st player on his team to have homered this season.

I was just coming in to post about Amaya/DSL guys and Hannemann. Amaya's hitting more than expected, Jonathan Sierra worked his 7th walk to 5 Ks in 39 PAs. The 6'3" Sierra's showing some speed and/or base running skills by stealing 3 bases without getting caught so far. The glove first C is the first one to hit a HR. Ademan the SS had 1 K in close to 40 PAs going into yesterday. We are definitely getting little hints of why this group of IFAs was really well regarded by the org.

That there's multiple Mexican prospects on the DSL rosters might be a good sign in regards to Isaac Paredes and Jose Albertos, two U18 2015 IFAs that remained stateside after EXST broke.

Fidel Mejia's another U18 prospect, one of the 5(!) switch hitters on the Cubs' DSL rosters, off to a good start. He's listed as a SS, played some 3B today...Second year pro is hitting .464 to open (5 Ks in 32 PAs, 3 BBs) and is yet another candidate to come stateside this summer.

Hannemann's cut his K rate like 8-9% from last year AND is hitting with more power. I'd knock him for his age, but he's got the excuse of a mission thing and he's got the plus of being a good enough athlete to play CB/DB for a D1 football program. Throw in defense that I heard is considered very good and I give him a shot at a ML bench.

I've wanted one of those Martin Perez/Eddy Rodriguez/Manny Banuelos/Julio Urias precocious pint-mid sized LHP prospects for a while now. A candidate! Please gain size/mass, velocity, and don't blow your arm out over the next 5 years!
