"There's a lot of talk because we're doing well and I'm doing a lot better than I did last year that I should play another one but let's get to September and October and see where we're at and see how my body feels," Ross said. "I'm pretty comfortable going home if that's the end result. A lot of things would have to line up for me to come back to baseball. There would have to be a lot of perfect storms. I'm not ruling it out, but I'm definitely planning on going home."

Flashing his ebullient personality that keeps teammates and reporters loose in the Cubs clubhouse, Ross cited another reason he would play in '17.

"I mean, I like money," Ross said with a hearty laugh. "Tell everybody I'm not turning down a qualifying offer if one is made to me."

I still think its more likely the Cubs offer him some good money to be a coach. It would be a tough spot for the Cubs with Contreras likely ready, Schwarber coming back and Montero signed for another year. I guess dumping Montero for .25 on the dollar and using Ross to mentor Contreras and Schwarbs behind the plate is an option if he really wants to return.

I think I'd rather have Ross + young catcher than Montero + young catcher. I mean...Miggy has not had a good year so far.

Ross has had a really charmed season and I think its playing with fire to expect him to extend it for another year, to be truly honest.

But yeah. Montero has been real bad.

I'm on board with if he wants to stick around make him a coach of some sort, possibly bench coach as I think it's quite likely Martinez gets a HC job next year.

Ross and Montero shortly after the playoffs last year

That reference would be awesome if anyone actually saw that movie.

Yeah, I'm in this camp. The Rossy ride has been a blast, but there's no way he's doing this again if he came back next year. It seems like Contreras starting and Montero as the backup is the most likely thing for next year.
