I hated Mount. Now he’s one of my favorite players. He’s just so solid everywhere and his effort is incredible.

I don't hate Mount. As I have said, he is a valuable and needed piece for a team. He is not an elite player and if you are building your team around him, you are never going to be a top team. Chelsea has several more talented players that are not being used effectively and playing a midfield of Mount, Kante, and Kovacic is never going to work. Kante is basically a better albeit older version of Mount and having two of them out there without a play-maker is not going to be effective. When you watch Chelsea without Jorginho, they cannot get the ball forward without heaving it - of course their skilled players aren't effective if they are constantly chasing long balls.

they dont play mount, kante and kovacic in the middle. since tuchel took over its been exclusively 3-4-2-1. in the 10 games since tuchel has took over, jorghino has played 90 in 7 of them.

wolves - jorghino/kovacic

burnley - jorghino/kovacic

spurs - jorghino/kovacic

sheffield - jorghino/kovacic

barnsley (fa cup) - gilmour/kante

newcastle - jorghino/kovacic

atletico (UCL) - jorghino/kovacic

United - kovacic/kante

Liverpool - jorghino/kante

Mount has come on 8 times in those ten games and all 8 times he's been deployed higher up the field. Scored three times in two 1-goal wins and a 1-1 draw.

3-1-4-2 for Barca - this is good for Dest being on the field as he is playing as a wingback. He seems to get engaged a lot more in that role going forward.

This lineup. Totally ineffective.

Yeah agreed. I suppose they wanted Kante to break up the midfield which he did (I believe he was motm) but offensively they had nothing and mount was mostly ineffective. But that’s only one game. You’ll always be able to find a lineup that didn’t work

I've seen it numerous times from Chelsea perhaps it was with Lampard. Never works (though perhaps a 0-0 draw is what the coach was after).

Ok so we are probably closer to the same page than we think. I wasn’t exactly a lampard out guy but I thought his use of the midfield was terrible and it’s why I supported his firing. I think the 3-4-2-1 tuchel is using is hamstringing the offense a bit but it’s definitely in order to make the defense stronger and a side effect is that he’s actually using the midfield appropriately with the jorghino/kovacic or Kante pairing.

yes, that's what I saying. No Mount or Kante today against Everton.

so far im a fan of the havertz, cho, werner triumvirate. just figuring out how to deploy havertz correctly would go a long way to fixing the offensive ills, not to mention CHO has been in good form for two months now

well, that is entertaining.

Haaland scores again to make it 2-0 except he knocks down the defender before scoring. It's a 50/50 call (in my mind) but the ref is off the hook by a clear pull back on Haaland seconds earlier leading to a penalty for Dortmund. Haaland takes the penalty but it is saved along with a point blank follow up and then another rebound shot. The keeper goads Haaland only for replay to show he was off the line. Haaland sinks the retake off the keeper's hand then screams in his face. The replay showed the keeper was off the line again had he saved it.

Sorry for Weston but glad Ronaldo is out.

or not

ESPN has the result incorrect - Porto goes through on away goal 2-1 is correct? They should have started McKennie

Yes, I was watching extra time on mute and wasn't sure if Porto had won or if it was going to penalties until I saw the post-match reaction.

what a terrible goal for Juve to give up - you can't allow a free kick from there.

Some dude named Florian who plays for arsenal and is a dual-national with England liked the Musah tweet. People seem to think that’s a big get.

18 year old with those skills and athleticism and he seems to be a great guy.

I really don't get this argument. The injury happened in a normal soccer play - the fact that is was potentially offside is irrelevant. The fact that you can disallow a bunch of goals that should count is far worse than the risk that a player gets hurt on a play that didn't count. Glad he's ok, but for me, two players going for a header is far scarier.

Yeah, the system is never going to be perfect and there will always be downsides to whichever way you go with it. I do agree with you on this one. Freak injuries happen. This could have happened on a play where the player was onside. If this was something that happened every couple weeks, then sure, you’d have an argument for it.

And it’s not like Sarah was a couple yards offside. It was close. He was definitely off but it wasn’t super obvious.

On the plus side, I had no idea about the extra concussion sub until today. Good on the EPL (or whoever decided to put this in) and hopefully they keep it permanently.
