I don't understand how 8 innings that he would have pitched in spring training dropped his velocity for the entire year

It is a different intensity and a different spring ramp-up.  Whether that is REALLY the cause of his struggles, who knows, but I could see it having lingering effects on some pitchers.  Look at Palencia, who is just now starting to get back to the pitcher we expected going into the season.

Wow, what a super ****** thing to do to your manger. If you're going to fire him fire him, but don't do him like this.....

falling down a baseball-reference.com rabbit hole (as one does), i look into the 1985 st. louis cardinals. not sure how many of you remember jack clark but the dude could hit monster home runs, take a walk and was also a massive horsefeathers-talker. got into arguments with just about all of the managers he played under, talked horsefeathers about his teammates (famously got into a 40-minute clubhouse fight with tony gwynn stating gwynn only cared about padding his stats and not winning games), filed for bankruptcy (owed supposedly $7.5m, owned 18 cars and was in the process of paying for 17 of them, among other things) and, when he became a sports talk radio personality after his career ended, accused albert pujols of doing PEDs which made pujols file a lawsuit against clark.
