One clarification question/statement:

The minor league players don't count against the 10-player max players kept, correct? But it could be possible for a minor league player to count against the cap, if they somehow were minors eligible but were out of exceptions?

Yes. You can keep 10 minor league players. You can keep 10 players that exceeded minor league limits. A player can still be minors eligible but out of exemptions and count toward the cap though I'm not sure it's ever happened to someone worth keeping.

Note for hitters that minors limit is 200 ABs in any one year but exempt limit is 50 PAs each year.

So to indicate the 10 players I want to keep do I just drop the rest of my roster?

Edit- Minor league question was answered, I just can't read.

yes, but you don't have to do that until the 12th and you may want to wait in case you want to make trades.

Some people will be looking to trade non-exempt keepers because they have more than 2000 points and would rather trade those guys for exempt players or for trade picks. Some people will be looking to trade exempt players to add points because they're below 2000 points. If someone posts "I can take points" they're saying they want non-exempt guys. Generally, teams that contended last year will have more points to give up and guys that tanked or did poorly will be looking to add points. Sorry if this is obvious.

No, thanks for the insight. I've done fantasy, but I've never been in a keeper league before and I've also never been in a league where everyone involved cared all that much.

So the reason my team is way over the cap is because of a combination of: 1) Some of them being exempt, and 2) Some of them considerably exceeding their numbers from the previous year.

Is that correct?

the cap is only the keeper cap. once the keeper deadline passes, you can exceed the cap (through trades, the draft, etc) and then it's meaningless during the season until next season when you have to get back under the cap with your 10 majors and 10 minors keepers.

So you're way over it because you need to get drop or trade a bunch of players by March 12 just like everyone else.

Okay. Got it.

Ok, so now I have some questions about the minor league roster. I saw a comment somewhere that implied that there are separate major league and minor league drafts. Is that correct? And if it is, do we only get a number of picks corresponding to how many "open" spots we have on the minor league roster (so 0 picks if we have 10 minor leaguers going into the draft?)

There have been separate drafts. You can overdraft and then drop the ones you don't want. You can't trade while you're over the limit.

Excellent. Thank you. With that said, I would like to jetison some points, and pick up minor leaguers/exempt guys. Who wants JD Martinez or Edwin Encarnacion?

So I still can't access the archive page and for some reason I do not have access to the league. Can you resend the invite?

Also, Can you trade points? If I only need 1500 and someone needs 2500 can I trade the 500 points for a pick or minor leaguer?

Is there a way to tell who is exempt, or do I have to ask people?

look at their stats and see if they have more than 3 years over the exempt limit. Exempt limit being 50 PAs, 5 starts, or 10 pitching appearances.

Still not able to access the rules thread link to the archives I guess...is that where I would see a list of draft pick trades that have already happened? Or am I to assume that my team has the full compliment of selections

Looks like you don't have a 1st or 4th in the MLB draft and don't have a 1st or 2nd in the prospect draft. I think you took imb's team. He made that insane trade with tim taking on trout and whatever but giving up bryant for 4 years and a couple top draft picks. really horsefeathering decimated that team.

but he lost to abuck in the finals, so...

You mean three or more, right?

If a player has two years that qualify, he is exempt for one more year, and if he has three years that qualify, he is NOT exempt... correct?

you're allowed to keep players as exempt until they've surpassed the thresholds that GR mentioned, 4 times

so as an example Sonny Gray has played 3 seasons, all where he has exceeded 5 starts so this is the last preseason keeper period that i can keep him where his points do not count against my keeper limit of 2000
