His days as a Dodger are presumably numbered, and I'd be interested in your thoughts on where/how he'd fit in Chicago?

Assuming talk of signing both Price and Heyward is realistic, would it be more enticing to look into signing Upton, Zimmermann and Span and trading for Puig? He's also still only 25 years old (in 2016), which is 14 months older than Soler.

I'd imagine that payroll would be a much better situation in the 2nd scenario, assuming something like Castro and Soler is what it takes to acquire Puig. Would probably mean adding in the neighborhood of $52M to the 2016 payroll. Scenario A likely means adding around 57 or 58M, right?

I realize that would be an immensely busy offseason, but if we're looking at adding a significant amount of payroll, would you rather see it be through paying 2 of the Top 3 Free Agents or would you rather see it be through going a little cheaper via free agency and making a trade for a potential star?

That's supposed to be more enticing than Price and Heyward? Even with Puig, gross. You just added an entire outfield, where do Soler/Schwarber play? No thanks.

I feel like I'm repeating myself a bit, but the Cubs signing Price and Heyward is not realistic. Any team in baseball signing Price and Heyward is not realistic. Signing Upton and Span is only slightly more possible than 'not realistic'. There's like 25 teams with eyes on competing next year, and about 20 of them have the financial wherewithal to add a significant FA deal. You will not be able to sign multiple players from the same position group to 10-figure AAV deals, market forces will make sure that those other teams outbid you as options diminish. The one exception might be if you go Yankees/Dodgers on your payroll, which there is about 0.2% odds of the Cubs doing specifically.

Soler goes in his Puig trade. That still leaves no room for Schwarbs.

With rumors that the Cubs still want to see if he can cut it behind the plate, that's where I have him.

Between the fact that he'd almost certainly need to develop there in the minors, the need/desire for his bat in the major leagues, and the emergence of Contreras, I highly doubt that's on the agenda anymore. At the time, they didn't realize his bat was this big league ready to be this impactful. I fully believe that they intended to develop him as a catcher with hopes of him becoming good enough to stick there, but a lot of things changed.

Schwarber is getting traded in an amazing blockbuster deal that will leave us all swooning. I'll bet you an autographed picture of me that it happens.

I'm struggling to understand why his days as a Dodger are presumably numbered.

He's supposedly not a hard worker, kind of a prick in the clubhouse, has had issues listening to coaching, and may not be able to stay healthy. Its enough to keep me from being all that interested in him. I definitely think our FO cares about clubhouse chemistry and I think that there's enough questions surrounding him, that he wouldn't be anywhere near a priority for us.
