Not necessarily, but they were the favorites to win it all after the NLDS and finished with 97 wins. The expectations were wrong and changed as the season went on.

 

But it's a fluff piece to get fans excited, so whatevs.

They used the word "beat" I get what they were saying but if looked at lazily it looks like they are saying the cubs got "beat".
