That UM ending was absolutely brutal. I thought ND had figured out all the horrible ways to lose games the last decade or so but they certainly haven't ever lost one like that.

In the same spot again, I have to think any coach would just have the QB run around and then chuck the ball way downfield. At least force the other team to make a huge play.

ND far from impressive tonight (Brian VanGorder should not be the ND DC anymore), but they managed to pull one out.

MSU didn't even send anyone back to return the punt. All UM had to do was have their punter catch the snap and kick it in the air and they win. Hell even after the muff, if he just falls on it at the 40, MSU has 6 seconds to either convert a Hail Mary or gain 20 yards while getting out of bounds in 5 seconds to have a reasonable attempt at a FG into the wind. Their win probability was apparently 99.8%. Basically 2 rather improbable errors had to occur plus MSU had to set up blockers and return it for a TD.

I just don't see any reason to do anything differently except for hindsight

Hindsight obviously helps, but I've long felt that anything under 12 seconds, just have someone run around for a while and then throw downfield. I didn't know MSU didn't send anyone back, though. Even if you're selling out for a block, that's a mistake and Dantonio got away with it.

I don't question either of the coaches. There was a higher probability that MSU could block a punt and possibly get a fg attempt then anything that could have happened if the ball was kicked. So send 11, no brainer.

As for Michigan, you practice that play. I am sure they don't practice run around and throw the ball up in the air. Or whatever scheme people are thinking up. Just execute. Play calling is overrated, execution is underrated.
