this defense can barely get a sack, much less a safety

25. Bears 5-11: A John Fox-coached team will not be embarrassed like this group was with regularity in 2014.

They won't be embarrassed, they'll just draft 8th.

Less than half their games end in double digit losses? No three game run of surrendering a combined 106 points? (As opposed to two last year).

Probably more frustrating than embarrassing this year.

So I said that two weeks ago. And I was thinking, that's 35 points a game!

The threshold is 27. Granted it doesn't match last years two game run, but, yea I retract what I said. We're not frustrating, were embarrassing.

is there anyone worth sucking enough for that i can root for 0-16 if cutler is out for a prolonged period of time?

winning any games with claussen wouldn't even be entertaining

Well its clear the defense, and team in general is bad, but a) we've played 2 really good offenses so far (I think Arizona with a healthy Palmer is a top 10 offense) and b) we've had several key injuries and c) given the quality of the coaching staff, I would be disappointed if the team doesn't improve as the season goes on

So while they are giving up a [expletive] load of points per game, I would expect that to go down just because of the coaching staff and lesser quality competition.

Not sure but since we need help pretty much everywhere it's worth rooting for the #1 pick. Remember the #1 pick is also the 33rd pick and the 65th pick, etc.

The may be a good offense, and I wouldn't have batted an eye at another low 30s output, but I thought our coaching was good enough to avoid that type of game. I don't think they are 48 point good (granted they scored twice outside of offense). Another 31-23 type loss would have kept me optimistic, even at 0-2. Never expected wins from this opening stretch.

They can't coach up scrubs and this defense is nothing but scrubs.

Well the defense gave up 34 points like you pointed out, 14 before Cutler went down, 20 after. When Cutler goes down, offensive drives get shorter, opponents get more possessions, weak defense has more time to be exposed. I couldn't watch any of the game because I was stuck in the backwoods of New Hampshire, but I'm assuming the offensive game plan was similar to GB, slow the game down, limit possessions, make opportune throws. If that's the case, that gets thrown out the window when you replace a slightly above average QB (having a pretty good game) with a terrible one.

I tend to agree, but there are a ton of young players on this defense, so I'm hoping they can find at least 2-3 pieces that can be on the team going forward. If those guys emerge and the rest get more comfortable with the scheme, they can probably not give up 30 points every game, especially when they are facing offenses that aren't GB or Arizona.

Can one of those guys be a fixed Kyle Fuller, please?

I just don't think he's very good. I'm not sure fixing is a thing that can be done.

(amateur X/O talk warning) The switch out of the cover 2 requires your corners to be better in coverage and does not help Fuller at all.

Make him a safety? I dunno, from the draft through week 4 or so it seemed there was a lot to like. While not a pure cover guy, still a lot of physical tools and good size. Guys like Ego, Jones, or Goldman seem like good complimentary players at most.

If he didn't suck the last 12 games of last season, I'd say perhaps he is just having difficulty adjusting to the new scheme but I'm dubious...his natural ability that allowed him to get picked in the middle of the 1st round should be able to be seen in flashes but he's instead constantly being abused out there.

Highest % chance to have the No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft according to FPI:

Bears (22%)

Raiders (15%)

Bucs (13%)

Browns (11%)

Jags (7%)

The draft is supposed to be way stronger this year. Top of the draft probably includes DLs Joey Bosa and Robert Nkemdiche, OT Laremy Tunsil and possibly even QB Jared Goff.

I know he's more talented but I really don't want another Fuller on this team. Give me Bosa.

A desperate for a win good team going against a terrible team, at home.

14 point spread

Not just home. The best home field advantage in the league.
