It's really pissing me off that we can play so well, but then we lose three straight game and literally every team that we are in contention wins all 3 of those days except the loser of the Giants/Cardinals head-to-head game. This game isn't over, but it likely is going to be a loss.

I will say, I do agree with ARCubsfan on the Cardinals-Giants topic. We're about to be 5 back of second place in the division if the Dodgers hold this lead. Worrying about the division seems kind of silly to me, even with how good the Cubs are.

ALTHOUGH, arguing about who to root for as if it makes a difference is even more silly, I suppose.

I mean if the Cubs have a worst case scenario pitcher to go against its a low contact left hander. Cubs have faced 2 of the best in the last 2 nights in pitchers parks. 2 losses is not surprising.

The only thing that truly bothers me from the last 3 games is the lack of quality starts from the bottom 3 in the rotation

Hmm, Vin Scully going on about Starlin's stolen base streak and how he stole home a few times earlier in his career.

I don't remember those..

We're pretty well locked into our spot. I'm confident we'll play well enough to hold off the Giants and just as confident that regardless of how well we do play, the Pirates will keep pace. If we sweep that Pirates series we may have a shot but that team just doesn't lose 3 games in a row. I realize the Cubs have rarely done that either but every time it has happened they've lost 3 games to the Pirates. Bad break getting MadBum/Kershaw back to back but losing to both makes trying to catch the Cardinals and Pirates virtually impossible. With the exception of once a week, those teams just don't lose.

It's too bad Kershaw turns into a pumpkin in the playoffs. How could anyone win a short series with a locked in Greinke and Kershaw?

We have 3 good relief pitchers and that's it.

That's probably about average for an mlb team

I'd say the average playoff team has 4-5

The Cardinals have 2. The Pirates have 3.

I'm with you on the quality starts, but I was really just bemoaning the fact that nobody else is losing. So, after a 21-4 stretch we picked up a few games on the Cardinals and Pirates and then in three days we lose pretty much all of that back - albeit in very losable games in terms of pitching matchups.

Thankfully, we picked up a ton of games on the Giants, Dodgers and Nationals this month though.

I think seanimal just wanted to avoid these pitching matchups before he took his turn

It's frustrating but the Cubs can only control the game they are playing. They are in a historically tough division...it is what it is

How many will Rodney give up here? Or will he go 1-2-3 and then be brought into a high leverage spot later in the weekend and blow it?

Hopefully whichever one leads to more ultimate pain, amirite?

If I truly enjoyed bad things happening to the Cubs, I'm not sure why I'd pretend not to.

Enjoyment is probably the wrong angle, you're right. It's more of a complete lack of any type of healthy coping mechanism.

30Ks the last 2 games now. Ouch

They're the worst strikeout team in all of baseball. Again, they're going to strike out a ton even when they're doing well.
