Baez went 0-4 tonight but with 2 SB and 0 Ks(!!!)

Almora 3/4 with a 2B and BB(!!!) - He's really coming on lately

Can one of you minor league aficionados explain to me why Almora is still rated as a top 50 prospect by some services. He has never seemed to hit worth much at all above A ball. Has little power. No OBP skills. He doesn't steal bases. Is he an uber defensive badass or something?

Almora is by all accounts a terrific defender, but anyone still putting him on a Top 50 list has their head in the sand about his lack of offensive progress.

BP had him at #38 and MLB.com at #57 for pre- 2015.

Yeah and both were ridiculous

Just looking at Contreras' stats. Why has he never played a full season before this year?

He didn't have any DL stints in 2013 or 2014. I think it's just that his bat wasn't good enough to get into the lineup on days he had off from catching. This year, he's forced his way into the lineup at 3B or DH way more on days he's resting at catcher. He had 72 starts at C in 2013, 73 in 2014 and 54 so far this year. Meanwhile, he had 8 starts at other positions in 2013 (RF and 1B), 2 in 2014 (both at 1B) and already 38 this season (3B and DH).

Fun with arbitrary endpoints:

Almora's last 10 games: .317/.417/.463 7BB/3K

Since June 20th (110 PA): .278/.355/.464 11BB/11K

Also, I think the ship has sailed on him being in anyone's Top 50. Word's out that he has sucked.

It's very possible that Almora picked up a thing or two during the Pan Am games from the coaches. He may never be the 5 tool played he was once projected to be, but is 2009-2012 BJ Upton an unrealistic hope for him? And add that to what we already have, and damn.

Any word on Eloy? Did they forget to tell him he wasn't traded?

He tweaked his shoulder a week ago. Remember when he got pulled midgame right before the trade deadline and Twitter started speculating he might have been traded?

Justin Steele hasn't pitched since July 20th. I found this from July 25th:

Van Tol said Justin Steele, who was supposed to start tomorrow, will rest. Instead, Kyle Miller and Casey Bloomquist will, in that order, pitch the first few innings of tomorrow night’s home game against Boise at 7:05 p.m.. Van Tol said he hopes to have both pitch about two innings.
