is utley a hall of famer? i'd probably vote yes.

His metric and slash stats are certainly HOF worthy for his position, but his counting stats are a bit lacking

What in the [expletive]? Did LLF take over Phils Twitter account?

lool oh phil

When on earth, on my darkest, drunkest day would I have suggested a thing like that? I've been known to offer laughably low value big league packages. But that's when we're talking a player we could live without as easily as with, and if we can get them for next to nothing, why not. I've been known to suggestlaughably high prospect packages, but that's when the prospect(s) are for all practical purposes blocked, and we may as well cash them in while we can. But never two serviceable big league players for a 36 year old rental who would be more luxury than necessity.

i'm no Castro-lover, but i wouldn't even fathom offering him alone for Utley. they can have Rubi Silva.

I love Utley and think he would be a valuable addition to this squad. Like we all know, it depends on what is given up.

According to RotoWorld last night, the expectation is he'll sit today and be dealt before they play again.

Personally, I have no clue how to value him.

Since there's quite a bit of money left on his contract, so I guess it all depends on what the Phillies will eat. Either way, I can't believe it would be anything significant.

a lot of people seem pretty down on utley, so i will chime into say i'd like to pick him up, provided we don't have to give up anything of significance or guarantee him a bunch of money for next year. coghlan at second is a nice idea but loses a lot of effectiveness when we have to take him out in the fifth inning or whatever. i don't think it'd be a big surprise at all for utley to be useful the rest of the way, and, if he isn't, we can cross our fingers and hope for the best from baez at the beginning of sep.

He probably asked for Schwarber and got hung up on again.

In this case, I'm thinking it's more that Utley doesn't wanna go anywhere. Wife and kids settled where they are...getting toward the end of his career. May just be happy to stay there.

I remember back in Junior High, there was an error card of a player whose birth year was listed as 1981. This was around 1990, and the thought of a pro-athlete younger than me was ludicrous. Now I'm running out of players younger than myself. I know it sounds random and OT, but it came to mind, since I consider Utley to be older than dirt, yet he's 2 years younger than I.

Yeah, but it's 1.5-(hopefully) 2months, and he spends half the time on the road anyway. It would hardly call for a relocation. And he's going to retire a 37 year old millionaire, so wherever he chooses to settle, he'll have plenty of time to enjoy it. But that's just my perspective,

The difference possibly being that the Cubs and Devil Rays (feels so retro typing that out) had agreed to the terms of the trade and it was simply between him wanting to stay with Rays or go to Cubs.

In terms of the reports out there, it doesn't seem like the Phillies narrowed down to a single team at this point but its possible.

I felt bad for McGriff...he debated for a long time (over 3 weeks) whether to come here or stay at home, finally the allure of chasing a title was too much and he accepted the trade. The Cubs went 11-9 during the time he debated (and actually gained 1.5 games in the standings) and he hit as advertised but the Cubs went just 26-30 after he came over and missed the playoffs, then was stuck with the Cubs in 2002 when they lost 97 games. Whoops
