There's a huge difference between fighting for a division and fighting for the 2nd wild card. Getting the Wild Card is a one game fluke, getting the division guarantees you 3 games.

The Royals ran into a collapsing Oakland team and got a home game in that Wild Card. The Cubs are all but guaranteed to get a good Pittsburgh team in Pittsburgh. If they win that? St. Louis.

Yeah, totally different from the 88 win Giants winning at Pittsburgh then taking care of the 96 win Nationals in 4 games, then the Cardinals in 5 games.

But the Nats and Cards were also collapsing
