[Cutler] has the physical tools, but inconsistent, particularly in the clutch, mostly due to a lack of poise. He’s not comfortable reading defenses and consequently locks on to a favorite or predetermined target that may or may not be the right choice. The less he’s asked to see the better he is. A better half-field general than a full-field one. This will be his make-or-break year. Needs to be his biggest critic and hold himself accountable.

Eh, Cutler has consistently been one of the best 4th quarter and comeback wins QBs in the league in his career, IIRC. I think his biggest issue is he doesn't anticipate very well. He's fine at throwing to an open man. I think he struggles to throw a receiver open and to anticipate throws to said receivers when they are making their breaks. I think that was a big difference in the 2014 and 2013 Bears offenses. Teams played a lot more man coverage against Marshall and Jeffery (Brandon lost a step, both were not 100% until Jeffery late in the year), and a combination of a boring route tree and Jay's lack of anticipation, which is more necessary vs. good man coverage....cause the offense to falter last year.

i think Angelo is pretty much right. Jay's lazy and he makes lazy throws. If he worked harder could he be a full-field quarterback? maybe, everybody says he's super-smart. that said, even as he is, he's a pretty decent quarterback, but by-and-large, Angelo is spot on with his analysis.

there was one throw against Green Bay that Jay made that said it all last year. it was to a covered Forte in the flat, but trying to hit him in stride. It was a terrible throw, but an even worse decision. He wasn't trying to throw the ball away, but it looked like he was, he threw it too early and he threw it with a man on Forte's back. It finally made me put aside my irrational Cutler love and simply think of him as a decent QB.

You're calling a guy who works out with his WRs all offseason in remote areas, has learned new offenses before everyone else several times over the last 6 years, and as a diabetic, shows up in great shape every year....lazy? And 1 throw changed your mind on him? Your post is as cliche as the "doesn't care, body language" crowd.

Mentally lazy. He makes lazy, ill-prepared throws. He can practice all he wants but if he can't make the effort to understand and diagnose a defensive package, then he'll never be complete.

Maybe he's not lazy, but actually just not very good

or, he's not very good because he's lazy.

Jay Ratliff suspended 3 games for violating substance abuse policy. The hits just keep coming

Apparently it's for a DUI from when he was with the Cowboys

January 2013. Lose our best D Lineman for the 3 toughest games of the year for something that happened before he was even in a Bears uniform. And it's not like the Bears just picked him up. He has had a contract end and re-signed since acquired.

I'm guessing they'll forgo any veteran cuts and just let the young guys get lots of experience?

Anyone else slightly nervous about Kyle Fuller? He hasn't done much good since week 4 of last season.

i'm more than slightly nervous about him

That would make the top 2 CBs from that draft.....busts.

Meh, until he sucks in the actual season, I'll still go with the "had multiple injuries most of the year"/"preseason doesnt matter" combination of excuses.

this is a fail. Would have been way better to put it in his hand.

This is pretty much where I am right now, hoping against hope it's the correct thought process.

Yeah, Fangio needs to do a better job of protecting him. He saw every #1 WR all year, has seen the #1 WR most of camp (Jeffery in practice, Hilton). When he was good early in the year, Tillman was healthy, but also the team used his best asset, his versatility better than putting him on an island against the Calvin Johnsons, Dez Bryants, and Jordy Nelsons of the league.

If Fuller proves to be inadequate at corner, I wonder if there will be any thought to trying him out at FS, given the lack of future (and, well, current) options there. I thought I recalled some talk around the draft that he might profile well as a safety considering his ball hawking skills.

Tough first season for Pace and Fox. They've been less than honest on a number of player issues. Lovie set a pretty low bar, I hope they're not trying to match that.

Wait what? NFL coaches and front offices not being completely forthcoming? The hell you say....
