I like James Russell, but guy's either got to get more swings and misses in general, or he needs to get the walk rate down.

The point is this...In this run environment, even the best hitters have a negative outcome 3 out of 5 times at the plate, and an average hitter has a negative outcome more than 2 of 3 times. So sure, you can expect a negative outcome and be right more often than not, but it's not going to lead to anything productive.

When there's a string of bashing posts about nearly every Cub every time to the plate, I start to wonder if anyone in the thread is actually still rooting for the team to do well.

Are you trying to say that if posters on this board weren't so negative the CUBS would produce better ???

No, productive conversation, not baseball.

I will say I didn't expect this Cubs offense to be near the bottom of the league in slugging this season.

They take walks well, but lots of strikeouts with little power to show for it is a bit concerning.

I've been thinking about this, and there is a tremendous chance I'm wrong. But are posters like Bukie, who seem calm and get on people for overreacting, are they watching a lot of the games or seeing mostly box scores or an inning here or there?

I ask, because as a baseball loser who watches so many of the games from start to finish, I have found myself being a lot more negative about the offense because I'm watching it time and time again fail to execute, strike out and not hit for any power. And that's not my imagination, as the Cubs entered the day 23rd in all of baseball in runs scored and 25th in slugging.

Yet, in the times that I haven't been able to watch and just check my phone, I tend to be a lot more relaxed even when we win 2-1 because all I see is the score and no failures.

Bryant becoming a two true outcomes guy

walk/strikeout?

Yeah. Last 23 PA: 12K, 4BB, 2 hits

i been saying for a while he cant really make contact on pitches with a lot of movement. i've watched most games this year and a majority of his hits and homers are either on hanging breaking balls or straight fastballs.

I think most players do better against hanging breaking balls and straight fastballs. Not sure, though.

If I'm in the game thread, I'm almost certainly watching the game, and 99% of my posts aren't sky is falling crap every time someone makes an out with a runner on.
