i am, however, VERY pleased that we don't have anyone named a closer

i assume that if we trade for a very good reliever (ala pap), though, that'll change, which kinda sucks

I think Motte is our closer now. If Maddon were still all about matchups in the 9th, Motte wouldn't be pitching.

didn't grimm just close out a game where motte came in with the game tied?

That was in extras.

Right. But Motte came in to a tied game.

I think that was just Maddon not being a typical idiot manager, and he used his best pitcher available (in his mind) in a tie game and didn't wait for a lead. With the way he's handled things lately, it looks like it's Rondon in the 7th, Strop 8th, and Motte 9th.

NL playoff odds are kind of hilarious looking, with 5 teams currently sitting at 75% or better odds of the playoffs. Only two other teams have a greater than 10% chance.

pretty crazy

hope it keeps trending that way so that (outside of obvious reasons - since we're one of those 75% teams) there are more trade options and fewer buyers.

totally forgot there was a double header in this set with st louis

i think we should repeat september 2003

That 5-game series was amazing. The whole team arguing with the third base ump on the game we were hosed on was great too. Also, the Cardinals went home right after that to play the Reds. My dad, uncle, brother and I had pretty good seats. We all wore the blue alternates. Cardinals TV guys continued to lament the series all night and showed us often.

I was at Game 1 of the doubleheader. Sosa walk-off in the 15th. I thought for sure Augie had a walkoff in the 12th (I believe) as he took one to the wall in LF. Aramis just missed a walkoff also. Sammy hit a foul would-be walk-off in extras too, IIRC. Most fun I ever had at a game in my life. Lost my voice between that game and yelling at the TV on the nightcap. Cubs won everyday for 8 straight days (losing only game 2 of the DH in the 5 game Cards series).

I was at game 2 of the double header. Remember texting people to find out if Alou's ball was foul or fair.

I was also at the 4th game of the series when we came back from the huge deficit. Ashamed to admit that I left in disgust after the JD Drew grand slam (IIRC) and caught the comeback on the radio and crappy phone data updates from back then.

I wish those games were on Youtube. Can't find anything.

There is some guy from the Suntimes who has been putting up old Cubs games on Youtube. I asked him about that series and he said he could find any of them. He's put up some other classics from that year though such as the Clemens/Wood game, the division clincher against the Pirates and game 5 against the Braves. It's fun to go back and watch them.

I didn't even get to see the clincher because if you were outside Chicago there was not way to watch it (because FOX Saturday rules suuuuuuuucked).

Listened to a staticky WGN because of storms between us and Chicago in the pouring rain in my parent's driveway with my brother.
