I wouldn't mind if Edwin Jackson started one of the doubleheader games against the Cards in a couple weeks or if something comes up - even sooner. He's been pitching pretty well of late and could be a weapon in the 2nd half if he can find himself. It'd be one thing if his velocity was down or was prone to injury but the guy has just been flat out bad with the Cubs. Might be worth one last try.

The Cubs really need Fowler to start getting on base. He's sitting with a .313 OBP in the leadoff spot. Not good.

I'd experiment with Coghlan there for a little while.

No.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Is it because of his patience plate approach or the fact that he's been on fire lately that has you hesitant?

It might be the 3000+ PA prior to this season that give just a wee bit of optimism that Fowler won't finish the year with a .313 OBP

The fact that Fowler has a .362 career OBP and I'm not going to overreact to a bad month or so. Coghlan does have a nice plate approach, but he also has quite a bit of power. He should be in the middle of the order (4,5, or 6). Fowler will be fine. Chill out. Putting a power hitter at leadoff and a speedy, on-base guy at the bottom of the order is stupid.
