This game is one of my favorites of all time. I remember watching and to this day, it can bring tears of excitement to my eyes. That was a season that should have had a completely different outcome. Fred McGriff came over from the Rays.. The Cubs had a really good roster...but seriously.. This video, Chip Carey being a jackass and calling Ricky out before the umpire signaled. I love the call though. I love hearing the radio broadcast too.

I kind of sort of remember that. But I have no recollection of the Steve McMichael/Angel Hernandez thing. That's pretty wild. I also don't remember Mongo looking quite so much like John Goodman.

how the [expletive] is this possible

the greatest thing dusty and the angry 04 cubs (holy kent mercker) did for us was get stone and caray canned

Steve Stone was pointing out how bad the Cubs were playing down the stretch and Merker and a couple other players had their feelings hurt and complained. I like the setup now, but Stone is a good color guy - and the Cubs pissed that season down their leg.

stone's a prick. [expletive] him. slider low and away. he's so prescient.

yes i know the team had their feelings hurt and were idiots. dusty was a jerk and his teams seemed to love being jerks too. nevertheless i'm very happy both got fired and we ended up with what we have.

Len Kasper is kind of a nerd, but he loves the Cubs and I love seeing/hearing that. JD tells it how it is and like Len said - if he doesn't know something, he'll say he doesn't know.

I wish the Cubs radio network would make Coomer stick to the color guy. He is a HORRIBLE play-by-play guy. I'd rather listen to gamecast.

I wish they'd fire Coomer altogether, but yes, he really needs to never ever do play by play

It was a different time, when home runs were really just rally killers and bloop hits were all laser shots.

And Glen Allen Hill hit home runs onto other buildings in Chicago... Oh....syringes are so fun.

Moreland was bad but he was better than Coomer.

Boy I could not disagree more. Ron is awful at PBP but he's fine as a color guy. Not only was Moreland a terrible clichebot as a color man, he inexplicably could not develop any cadence at all with Pat and dragged him down.

Ron Santo was a terrible insight-color guy, but he was just awesome to listen to. He gets a pass.

This game was so amazing that I felt the need to write down my memories of the game because I did not want to ever forget. I was never the type of person to keep a journal or anything like that.

Comer is not a fine color guy. He's terrible

If you think Coomer is terrible, then you'll think 99% of radio color guys are terrible. There are no JDs out there and only a few Brenlys for radio. Radio color guys are there to banter with the PBP guy(Ron does this pretty well), occasionally add insight that to illuminate the PBP description(Ron does this sometimes) and avoid speaking in terrible cliches(Ron does this sometimes). You don't have to love Coomer, but then you probably won't be happy with anyone that fills that spot*.

*Just to be clear this does not apply to Coomer's PBP work, which is roughly 8th grade caliber.

he just seems like such a dumb goofy bumpkin

if we're going to have one of those can it at least be a player who was here more than like one season and who i actually liked?

Let's bring back Joe Carter for TV. Much like being a baseball player doesn't necessarily make you a good coach - the same can be said for broadcasting.

Dave Otto is OK - not great, but has decent insight. Hollandsworth is ok when he's not studdering. Dan Plesac was solid - bummed we lost him to MLB Network.
