So back in 2002 I got for my 21st birthday an authentic Mark Prior Cubs Jersey. I have been wearing this jersey to the all the games that I go to ever since but I am kinda sick of wearing Prior's jersey for the obvious reasons. Since these jerseys cost like 200$ dollars or so I haven't been to inclined to purchase another one because that's a ton of money. So I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this or if its even possible to do. Is it possible to take Prior's name off the jersey and replace it with Russel on it? That would save me a lot of money and I would have a much cooler jersey!

If you don't care about actual authenticity you can always try and find one of those Chinese knockoffs somewhere online. Or you can do what many folks here do and get a jersey shirt.

Jersey shirts are lame I don't want those. Do those Chinese knockoffs look legit at least?

Haven't looked at them since the Derrek Lee days, but they were decent and, iirc, a little under $100. But i cant speak for how reputable the businesses are.

In my experience with them, yes. Only real difference between them and the authentic ones are you can tell the material is a lower quality and the numbers/letters/patches my not be quite centered.

I tried doing the same thing. According to people at Cub World and Wrigleyville Sports, there's really no good way to get the letters off of a jersey without ruining the jersey. You could get a nameplate stitched over the Prior lettering, but it would probably look really weird, especially the home jersey with the pinstripes. If it's the Blue jersey, it could look OK.

It is the blue jersey but I just looked on Ebay and there is a bunch of jerseys in the 50 to 60 dollar range that look just fine so Ill probably just end up buying one of those instead.

You're lame, jersey shirts are awesome.

That's what I was thinking. Certainly better than wearing a decade old Prior jersey.

A decade old Prior jersey is lame thus why I wanna replace it!

You know what's a lot lamer than jersey shirts (which aren't lame)?

Knockoff jerseys

I bought a Santo jersey years back for just this reason - didn't want to replace it.

Right, this makes sense -- wait to buy jerseys once guys retire -- just to be sure. I was thinking of getting a Bryant authentic, but you never know, he could be traded at the ASB for a center fielder or something. Candelario is coming and there may not be room for both. #neyertakes

I ended up buying an authenic Bryant jersey off of ebay last night. Hopefully his career ends up better than Mark Prior career did.

But what if that career takes place in Boston after he (maybe) gets traded there? Anything could happen, after all.

I have a nameless jersey from the year they took the names off (it's Aramis' number)

I also have a random shersey from the Cubs Convention of some reliever who's not on the team anymore
