I've never ever seen that called when the runner gets the base like that. How many times has Holiday gone completely out of reach of the bag to nail people and not gotten called?

Yeah, he's basically physically assaulted Castro once or twice.

things that drive me crazier than umpires:

using your relievers in ascending order of quality in extra innings instead of the opposite. So so so so so dumb

Ross got the bag with his hip and basically raised his arm to protect himself from getting kneed.

If Ross did that to Russell or Castro, we'd be going nuts. Was an unnecessary play that had no impact on whether Fowler was out or safe.

Only if it was Matt Holiday

that was pretty much textbook for sliding into second to break up a double play in a clean fashion.

Holiday goes in with his spikes on people five feet off the bag.

The most impossible question in the universe is "who is more hateable, carlos gomez or matt garza"

I'd freaking love Gomez if he were a cub.

I'm sure he did it to break up the double play, the problem is that it's not dirty, and I can't find any reference to it being illegal in the rulebook.

Well, there's no question he was trying to break up the double play by angling his body that way. But I think he catches that leg in his face if he doesn't raise his arm.

At what point are you actually concerned about how far behind you are? It's a long season but St. Louis isn't getting any worse.

Odds that STL keeps playing at a 115 win pace: pretty damned low

As bad as the bullpen has been recently, this one is more on the offense today. I like wins when only giving up two runs in 10 innings.

I just like wins.

I mean it's St. Louis, anything is possible.
