Week 10: Bears (3-5) @ Packers (5-3) 7:30PM NBC/780

Can't imagine the Bears will trade away draft picks when they're already 3 back of Detroit but Barron sure would be an interesting target:

@nfldraftscout: Ideal landing spots for V Jackson (Seattle), Doug Martin (Denver) and Mark Barron (Chicago). Hopefully we see some action today.

Trade deadline is today.

Where did Barron come from? Has Bucs let it known they're shopping everyone?

I'd imagine Barron would cost a 2nd round pick. He was just drafted top 10 last year. I'll pass unless they take a 2016 4th or some [expletive].

He was drafted in 2012, three whole drafts ago. That slot doesn't mean much of anything anymore.

Oh my bad. I thought it was 2013. Point still stands, that's what I'd be willing to give up for him.

For those who've been thinking Houston had been a complete worthless clown of a bust

(He's still a clown for celebrating that sack of the backup QB while down like 20 points - but not for getting hurt doing so. That's just bad luck.)

They are shopping everyone, it appears.

Yeah, just judging a player's ability to bring pressure by sack totals is how you get Willie Young for $3 million a year. You're also losing the versatility and run stopping ability he provides.

I wonder how many times Briggs has blitzed this year to get one single QB hit.

Matt Miller mock draft. Bears take Shaq Thompson at 10 (with Landon Collins on the board): http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2246000-2015-nfl-mock-draft-matt-millers-midseason-predictions/page/11

Pick a player on defense and it's likely the Chicago Bears need help there. Phil Emery has done a good job in some spots—signing Willie Young, drafting Will Sutton, Ego Ferguson and Kyle Fuller—and struggled in others (see: McClellin, Shea). But what's most important is moving on from the misses and reinforcing the hits on defense with better all-around talent.

Safety and linebacker stand out as the two big areas of need on this defense, so I'm going with the best player available at either position. That happens to be a player who could actually play either spot.

Shaq Thompson has played safety, outside linebacker and running back at Washington, and to me he's another Lavonte David type linebacker. Athletic, rangy, smart and super active no matter what the offense does. Plug Thompson in with other young linebackers Christian Jones—a nice undrafted free agent pickup—and Jon Bostic and this unit might be worth developing and watching them grow.

In the second round, he has the Bears taking Stanford OT Andrus Peat: http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2246000-2015-nfl-mock-draft-matt-millers-midseason-predictions/page/34

Walters last draft (10/22) has Thompson in the third. Us he just behind here?

Geez, that's bad. He should have been an obvious first rounder even before the season began.

So, I'm having a fun exchange with former ND and NFL QB, Steve Buerelein. LOL.

I never do this, but I'm completely going in on him on Twitter.

CBS Sports posted an article of him saying basically, Cutler is the highest paid player in the league and needs to start stepping up to the challenge.

I replied, "if anyone knows about stepping up, it's Steve Beurelein see: 1985 Orange Bowl".

His response, "Good comparison. Big difference between highest paid player in the NFL and a college kid playing hurt for Coach Faust".

My response, "agreed. Cutler should have covered Gronk, forced teams to punt more than once in the last 4 losses, and taken less money to do so."

Then I went on about how he got called "soft" for leaving a playoff game with an MCL injury that keeps people out 4 weeks, an injury which happened the same year he got sacked 9 times in 1 half of football. And that now, he's getting dogged because he can't will the defense to stop people.

He says, "Cutler can only worry about what he can control, but somebody in that lockeroom needs to step up"

My last response, "how do you step up down 45-7? Lead 2 2nd half TD drives? Done. Then I told him to stop talking about a lockeroom he's never been in and pointed out leadership isn't why the team is 3-5.

I love the myth of Cutler being the highest paid player in the league. That's only true for this season because they front loaded the contract for salary cap reasons.

Outstanding.

Am I the only one that is leaning for the Bears to go Tackle/Guard + RB in the early rounds of the draft? I wonder what a power run game can do to propel this offense. Hell, either a speedy RB or a power RB would work. I just don't think Trestman would care to make that a big part of his offense. It would really help Jay IMO

Lastly, anyone else notice the severe lack of a moving pocket and PA rollouts? Jay is so good on the move and if they wanted to help Mills on the edge, this is something they should have done the last 2 games. What a failure.

Barron was traded to St Louis for a 4th and a 6th. I think I would have done that.

Isn't he an underachiever? Why is St Louis going crazy on defense when they need offensive talent?

Yes, very much so.

Yep. If you're going to look at mock draft on that site, just use Charlie's. He's still not great or anything, but a LOT better than Walt and better analysis on each picks.

Walter did update his mock today and he went

9: Landon Collins (he has Thompson in the 1st now although it's at 31)

41: Owamagbe Odighizuwa (Perryman went next pick and McKinney at 55)

73: Quandre Diggs

Have they said if both picks are this year? If so, I might not do it because then Bears are left with just 4 picks in the draft although they still have the top 3 rounds. If it's like 4th this year and a future 6th, then yeah I would do it.

JFC, Randy Gregory is mocking in the Top 5? He backed out on Purdue at the last minute to go to Nebraska...

Wasn't it because of Hope got fired and Hazell came in? I can't remember exactly why Gregory backed out.

Hell, he has a chance to go #1 overall.
