I thought it was just an account all of the mods have access to.

Yeah, that's what I have always thought.

I'll end the mystery. This is correct.

There were quite a few fans of other teams who, in the immediate wake of Maddon opting out, wanted him to replace their guy (many Cards fans, most notably). Now they are going on about how Maddon is overrated, managers don't make much difference (there is some truth to this) and how the Cubs and Maddon are unscrupulous for doing Renteria dirty.

This is totally predictable "sour grapes" behavior that some of us would no doubt be guilty of if the shoe were on the other foot, but it's still funny.

You can tell the Cubs are pretty close to being good because the cognitive dissonance from rival fans has gone through the roof.

i feel like quantifying this could be my contribution to baseball analysis

why is Jorge Soler the yellow and blue ranger?

Cuz the guy that made it got confused and thought one was Alcantara.

with no Russell?

i was just about to point this out. i would have two soler's for sure, but replace baez with russell. two soler's because his dongs hit dongs and also have dongs so he has the best dong dong ratio in all of baseball

Lots of peaks when we were good, significant decline since we've been horrible. I think you may be onto something.

The funniest thing about Cards' fans indignance is that it has a very "Steinbrenner-Mattingly" vibe about it, as if there were no way the Cards would put up with a manager that was as unkempt as Maddon was yesterday.

Yeah, I was over at GRB and saw a poster say he wouldn't want any manager as unkempt as Maddon was yesterday, that it was reflective of messy thinking or some such nonsense, and that it would be beneath the Cards. I don't know if it was sarcasm, but I literally laughed out loud.

The GRB Chicago jealousy is delicioussssssssssss

His interview disgusted me, especially the parts about chicago, nothing makes those people more smug than talking about their downtown and wrigley field. Just don't pay attention to the 500 murders that happen there a year

and this

Also it's great that they don't realize that his hair is all messy because he put the hat on and took it off.

not to be all umfan, but hate/misery porn can be fun. we haven't really had this since 2008, aside from a few weeks of 2011 theo hype.

"This"? What is this that we have to hold over everybody? They hired a manager and resigned Wada.

insert Mr. Wolf quote here

I understand enjoying the grief after the Cubs sweep some opponent, or, you know, if they actually accomplish something. But misery porn after signing a manager? That's not the misery I am interested in.

this being the swell of hate/jealousy that is already starting before we've even been above .500 past the first week of the season

I don't feel smug about the Cubs hiring Maddon, I just like how they went from "Maddon for manager, Matheny for bench coach!" to "Look at his hair, he's so beneath us" in the space of a few days.

And they're usually a pretty level headed lot over at GRB.

Whew, thank God Truffle is there to handle it.

It's an opposing teams' board; of course they're going to be talking [expletive]. Mocking La Russa is still (rightfully so) a cottage industry around here.

criticizing his appearance is a very snobby cardinals fans thing to do and worthy of mocking. this is true

Eh, it was a pretty goofy press conference. It was fun from our standpoint, but the general commentary about it from outside was amusement or mocking because it/he WAS pretty goofy.

And who the [expletive] is Jed? Why do Cubs need two clowns like that?

I picture the 3 of them after that presser heading off to a gentrified fancy bar with Nate Silver and taking all the fun out of drinking bourbon or whatnot.

^ That one might be my favorite so far. By the way drinking bourbon with Jed, Theo, and Nate at a gentrified fancy bar.... count me in!

It was goofy, but I've heard a lot of national media types saying that Maddon killed it in addition to being irreverent. The only segment I've heard just dumping on Maddon over it has been Cardinals fans.

that's basically what i was going to say and then forgot to in response to your other post

dude said he'd rather have matheny because of maddon's messy hair. that is [expletive] hilarious.

Yeah, definitely didn't see the national mocking angle at all.

Yeah. I'll read it and make fun, but [expletive] if i'll go over there and antagonize them with my presence.

No matter how hard they try to be friendly, that is rarely well received. Shoutout to Jake.

Not of the signing, but just of the press conference. Along the lines of, "hey, look at this guy buying everyone drinks/looking like Harry Caray." Nothing major.

They've got a decent community there and most of the better posters don't get sucked in to bash the Cubs-wankfest something like their Maddon thread turned into.

I read that and realized I worded what I wrote really poorly.

I meant fans of other teams coming onto a board are rarely well received, no matter how hard they try to come off as friendly or whatever. Just clarifying.
